Lotta BULL -- 2
I lease my pasture to a guy that his land borders mine, i take care of irragating, he put a new bull in with the cows
and said the bull was real tame, ok but i still dont trust him! on tuesday he come trotting up bellering & stopping to paw & snort & i told him one more step & im gonna let fly with some snake shot, that was may be 7 yds.
well he turned around & walked off, well after that i felt real puny with the 357, so today i took the Alaskan in 454
with 2 45 c snake shot, the bull was bout 100 yd away & yester day he paid no attention to me so i felt safe today
well he took one look at me & started his charge he was roaring mad & about 7 yd. i shot for the knees & nose
man oh man he stopped & went down just a screaming & bull dozeing in the ditch & im going for the gate at a fast walk, with a bumb knee running wasnt an option, got to the gate & i thought he was gonna crash the gate but
stood there sounding like a steam engine a pawing then bull dozeing, long story short they come and got him off my place, i did tell the owner the next time will be a 300 gr, slug he said im glad youre ok, i said me to!!
Im starting to get real paranoid of bulls when im on foot

They will hurt you. Years ago a friend was killed at a sale when the auctioneer asked him if the bull was tame. He said, "Yes. I raised him from a calf." Got in the pen with him and the bull killed him in front of his family and the sale crowd.
Re: Lotta BULL -- 2
I had a pet bull when I was a teenager. He was only a few days old when a friend and I were fishing at Grandads pond when he walked across the pond dam to come look at us. He stopped about 5 ft away and I kind of scooted over to him and let him smell my hand. He was OK with that so I moved closer and started scratching him on the head. After that, he would come over to me to be scratched. He could be 1/4 mile away and see me and hear me yelling for him and here he would come.
This was fine till he hit about 500 lbs and came over to rub his head on my leg and just picked me off the ground. Figured it was time to sell off some calves, him included.

We worked for some folks years ago that had dairy cattle. She was a rough woman but she had a sweet heart. Well one of the cows had complications calving and died. The woman saved the calf and literally was the only momma he knew. That calf grew to enormous proportions with a Labrador puppy personality. The bull would sneak up on her while she was hooking up the milk cows. We would hear all kinds of blue language coming from the milk barn. That bull would pin the woman in a corner with his enormous bulk and lick her up one side and down the other! A true gentle giant.

Brad,
You got big ones being out there unable to run fast with snake loads……I’m surprised he let you alone after the #7’s. You should have had Boots nearby with her trusty Vaccaro…….tell her I said “hi”. Glad your OK bud…..
Bulls are like bears……some are mean and some semi mean……..I’ve never seen a “nice” bull. When a bull gets mad, real mad, nothing will stop them. I’ve seen them go through a fence like it wasn’t there. The bull my in-laws had for breeding was so mean he had to kept locked in the jack until breeding time for about 50 cows. (Man! What a job!).
My wife’s grandfather was killed by a bull back in 1912….the bull will drive their head into your chest and push down or if there’s a wall they will run you into it on a split second…..put the brass ring in their nose, tie a rope on it is the only way that I know of to control them, other than a stunner.
So, every time you eat a hot dog you can bet that the majority of it was once roaming the pasture, including those two big hanging T’s. .—00

Whoo! Sounds too dang close! Glad you had a good outcome Brad.
We had Herefords and later on some Shorthorns and I never even had any excitement with the bulls. But a yearling heifer sure boosted me over a tall fence one time.

Glad you OK, Ollogger! That could have ended badly. We had a Black Limousine bull one time that decided to be overprotective of the herd. I started carrying
a big stick when I was feeding and checking them because he would charge at me. I popped him on the nose a few times with the stick and kept him at bay. I couldn't
trust him so got rid of him. We have had good luck with Black Angus, Brangus and Balancer bulls being pretty calm. Never had any Hereford bulls but I am like Earl, Herefords
are pretty docile, at least the cows always were. I have two big Hereford heifers now and they are as gentle as can be.

Glad you didn't end up ground chuck. I haven't had any bad bull experiences, but I did have to milk a schizoid thoroghbred mare one time that had nearly killed another worker. The foal had the scours and wasn't nursing so I had to relieve the pressure for a few days. Guess she liked me, we got along ok.

Re: Lotta BULL -- 2
This bull is a Hereford & was a pet as a youngster, this is his first year in with cows, he didnt know that
i was not in competion for his girls
from some of the guys around here a shot in the nose with snake shot will stop a bull or a cow but you could blind them if you shoot high, a while back one guy had a mad cow on him & fired 12 rounds of 9 mm befor it killed her, my trusty 642 saved my life that time when i shot a huge Angus bull in the neck with a 38 spl. that was bent on turning me to hambuger gravy

Most folks think of cows as some sort of overgrown puppy. Most media portrays them as peaceful critters, like they do buffalo. The problem is that reality is quite different. It get folks hurt or killed.
When I was a kid we had some guys stop on the road, climb the fence and think they were going to do some cow tipping. We found two in the morning. One was deceased, the other was stove up so bad he went to the ER then ICU. The third drove off and left them. This wasn't some wild Texas longhorn steer. It was Holsteins. For those that don't know, they are the breed portrayed in the milk commercials running from a cloud. They will stomp you given half a chance. and, they can kick like you wouldn't believe.

Not far from here is a buffalo farm, you can go gawk at them and buy meat as well. Seems like every summer some nitwit with a camera climbs the 8' fence and gets pulverized. Darwin was right.

Glad to hear there was a positive outcome Brad. I went to a private elementary school... out in the country for city kids. Owned by the 2nd largest land owner in the county. 1st grade, readin', writin', 'rithmatic, Spanish, and "life skills"... read: gardening and farm chores. Just outside the playground area, there was a bull in his own little pen, maybe 25' across... the older kids would taunt you to climb the fence, dash across the pen and climb out. I was neither brave enough, nor foolish enough to accept the challenge. I did have a pet Longhorn bull for a couple of years... but his penchant for jumpin' fences and angering the neighbor's MUCH larger Limousin bull sent him down the road to be someone else's problem child. Tame as all get-out... But darn could he jump!
