Bear Creek Supply “shuttlecock” bullet

I’m experimenting with a 230 gr hollow base bullet from Bear Creek Supply. It shoots super clean in my guns and is proving to be white accurate.

That was a very mild load of 7.1 gr 231 so I’m going to try it with a full power load of 9 gr of Unique

Do they have lube grooves or are they coated Scott? How fast are You pushing them? Look Good.! I didn't see the second post. .

They are coated. Leaves revolver and rifle barrels clean.

No grooves at all. I’m seating them to 1.580.

But I do want to push it a bit harder to see what happens.

About 20 yards shooting through the chronograph.

Cases were smoky so I should push it a little harder.

They certainly seem quite accurate, you'll have to stretch them out a little further and see what they do.

Does this bullet remind anybody else of the old fashioned 12 ga slug?

I was able to shoot them in the 1873 Winchester this morning and 9 gr Unique averaged 1200.8 fps.

Thats a deer killing load

Yup, a Foster type slug is what it is.

Both loads left no visible residue in the barrel. The 9 gr Unique load shoots to the sights. I think I’m going to be happy with this.

I have been eyeballing that bullet to use in my 1937 Smith in the Auto Rim cases. Hoping the hollow base bumps up to seal the throats.

I think that would work well. I’m thinking that I might do the same with my 1917 Smith revolver.

I think 9 gr of Unique is the load for my SAA and 73 carbine

When I talked with them they said that this bullet was designed for use in the .45 ACP. I’d use standard 230 gr loads and I think they would work beautifully..

Hey, they've also got bullets for the 25ACP! I've got a 1917 Colt Vest Pocket and dies, but no bullets! Looks like I'm gonna have to order some!

These bullets are sure easy to load on my Dillon press. They seem to line up on their own and there’s no build up of lube in the dies.

I’m loading up a few hundred to see how they perform at distance with my sixguns and carbines.

I’m sold! I’ve shot several hundred rounds of this bullet now and it shoots well in every gun I own. 9 gr of Unique does the trick and it blasts right through a treated 4x4 with plenty on the other side.

Scott, are these soft enough to expand from the Colt? They could be a real defense round or loaded a little hotter and shot thru a Rifle and be Great for Deer at woods ranges. Bear Creek has quite an array of bullets for sale. Thanks for the post.

I think they would expand in flesh. They are pretty soft.

But they also don’t shatter. Quite accurate in my revolvers and carbines.

It will be interesting to shoot something with hair on it. 1200 fps from the carbine ought to do the trick.

Out of curiosity,Scott- do these cactus recover from the bullet holes? I mean do the holes grow back together or do they just dry up around the hole?

They generally continue to grow around the hole. Doesn’t seem to hurt them at all. I have some that have holes in them that healed years ago.

Standard crimp from my Dillon dies at an overall length of 1.580

Closely matching the factory loading overall length and feeds real well in my 66 and 73 Winchesters.
