Good way to spend couple hours Friday morning.

Post by Pat C »

Recently picked up a gunsmith special Savage 1914 pump.
Action was locked. Fixed that issue easy enough ,simple pivot pin was missing .Quick fab and install spring that loose because of missing pin. Action works slick as a ribbon now.

Second issue somebody put a hardware store screw in slide handle which was dragging mag tube denting it and pulling out of frame past it's retainer pin.

Drove pin out swaged dent out of tube ,reinstalled good to go there.

Final issue was to find a replacement slide handle screw.
Looked on ebay for two weeks. Pricey or none available.
Jack first had repros. But decided I'll just make it .

Turned,threaded, cut slot, polish head,oxpho blue/card ,install.

Pretty poor crack repair to stock is next mission for anouther day.

Has a nice bore with just a couple light patches of fine pitting. Good sharp rifling that took over 50 patches to get lead out.
I think it will be a shooter.

I’ve picked up a few firearms that didn’t work. Mostly they just needed a disassembly and cleaning. Sometimes minor parts replacement.

I’m always amazed that folks will dump a perfectly good firearm that just needs to be cleaned.

I had been looking for a 1914 but they are either toast or very expensive. Picked this one up for $188 . And was pretty nice rifle Sans the few issues. The stock has a stuff repair that I'll make a Dutchman splice soon.

Fired two more 10 shot groups offhand at 25 yards,it had potential .Nice wide trigger

I admire your skills !
Nicely done. When you get it all fixed up how about a range report firing from a rest to see what the rifle is capable of please ?

Great to see a good gun brought back from near death. I need to dig mine out and give it a workout.

My guess it will shoot near one hole groups from bench , my 29's will. I'll try it maybe next week or so see.
I usually shoot 25 yards standing offhand as we have monthly shoots in rimfire economy class and test is the rule. NO bench

I have a Steven's/Savage single shot 22 long rifle, it has a lever
to work the action. It's a model 1915 number 24. It was missing the firing pin so I made one up to replace it out of bar stock and made a spare to put in the butstock in case it ever broke again works great looks good too.
10mm, when you care enough to send the very best.

Most of the time I'll buy original parts if I can get them quick from ebay. But it's nice to know if need be quick trip to basement and voila .

Well done! 8)

I like tinkering with stuff like that - bringing something back from non-functional junk
to something that can be used as intended.
