Skeeter Skelton story

Post by Scott Tschirhart »

I’m looking for an old Skeeter Dobie grant story.

I think it was titled Midnight Ride and Dobie had retrieved a stolen horse and had been wounded in the scrape.

As I recall he found a windmill and shot a deer with his revolver as he was laid up.

Anybody remember this one?

I remember it well Scott. Dobe shot the deer with his old cut down '17 Colt with mesquite grips.

What I can't remember is the title.

You'd think those great stories would be on the web somewhere. But with the passing of Bart maybe the family isn't quite up to it yet.

Sadly the Dark Canyon website with a bunch of Skeeter articles doesn't have any of the Dobe Grant stories.

The title is "Flight From Mexico". Found in "Selected Works of Skeeter Skelton: Vol. II." (Hoglegs, Hipshots & Jalapenos)

Another that I always like to read is "Bustamonte, I Hate You" .... and these days I'd like to find a "Bustamonte" Colt!

Considering what Skelton's books go used these days, the family would be wise to re-release them. And heck, do them in an audio format while their at it.

My favorite is one of the “Me and Joe” stories about Skeeters grandpa’s friend Tap Ramsey.

I showed my daughter what the books were selling for so she would know not to just toss them out down the road.
