OFF TOPIC - A Timely Discovery

Post by JimT »

A friend who knew I had lived in Mozambique posted a message to me about the fighting going on north of where I lived. One of the radical Islamic groups attacked the town of Macomia, killing people and destroying property. I looked at the area on Google Earth, then tracked on down to Pemba where I lived and was amazed to see my late wife's name on the map!

The "Computer Lab" is a building that we had built in her memory after she passed. We provide a free course to those who are in School or University, teaching them how to properly start and shut down a computer, typing, word processing, data base and spreadsheet, and Power Point. The students are tested and after passing are issued a Certificate affirming that they have taken the course. Students have gotten jobs at resorts, doctors offices and other businesses. Each student is given a New Testament in Portuguese and every class begins with Bible reading or a short lesson. I am not sure how many we have graduated but it is near 300 if I remember correctly.

The building is called "Mama Twyla's Computer Center." We had it built the year after she died. Tomorrow will be 8 years since her death so the Computer Center has been operating for 7 years. Each class is limited to 25 students. These photos were taken just after construction was finished.

The building is air conditioned, has excellent lighting, a very nice restroom, and hand-built desks and chairs that are very sturdy. These are some of the early classes.

The laptop computers are kept in a safe storage room that has a steel grate door as well as the wooden door. The entrance door is strong and locked well plus there is a guard day and night nearby.

Some of the members of Leverguns are the ones who helped make all this possible. I appreciate everything they have done.

And me finding her name on Google Earth the day before the anniversary of her departing this life was good for me. It brought me great happiness to see that. Sort of like a surprise Christmas gift!

And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.

+1 to all the comments above -- that must have been a special moment when her name popped up like that!

Back in the early 70's, we'd say that was "Radar Love"...

She sends her comfort comin' in from above
We don't need no letter at all
We've got a thing that's called radar love"

Shakespeare wrote that The evil men do lives after them. The good is often interred with their bones. it is heartening to know that Shakespeare was incorrect.
