Aluminum receivers
I have been seeing 1892 Browning pattern guns with aluminum receivers out of Turkey on YouTube. Given how the 92 locks via two steel lugs on either side the bolt rear and against the rear of the receiver, do you guys think the aluminum will hold up or give headspace issues eventually?
Re: Aluminum receivers
Haven't seen any of those, what's the model called ?
Re: Aluminum receivers
The Huckleberry, imported by Gforce, made by Hugtech I believe
Re: Aluminum receivers
That's right I saw earlier post here about it , the case hardened finish one was steel IIRC.
Re: Aluminum receivers
Good question. I wonder if they reinforced the breach lug area with steel? But IIRC 92s have been stretched with hot loads, so it is a concern. OTOH, if the case hardened one is steel, there ya go, steel frame and cased colors.44shooter wrote: ↑Sat Mar 09, 2024 12:54 pm I have been seeing 1892 Browning pattern guns with aluminum receivers out of Turkey on YouTube. The big draw for me is the 94 Winchester size stock. Location and configuration of the front sight is odd, but that could be corrected. The aluminum receiver is a no-go for me. I am just starting to see the steel/case colored version for sale and that one tempts me a bit. I'm waiting for some enterprising youtuber to be the crash test dummy.

People were smarter before the Internet, or imbeciles were harder to notice.
Re: Aluminum receivers
There was a recent write up in AR Magazine about an aluminum 94 from Turkey in 410 but I didn't know they were also into 92s.

Re: Aluminum receivers
In 410 aluminum should not be an issue, 10-12,000 psi aluminum can easily contain.
They would have to find a way to mate steel locking surfaces into the receiver to control bolt thrust and that would be costly for the ' low quality inexpensive ' Turkish guns. Not to mention the thin walls of the receiver are still aluminum so stretch would continue to be an issue.

Re: Aluminum receivers
The one I’m referring to is a 357 magnum

Re: Aluminum receivers
I think the SAAMI pressure standard for .357 is 45,000. SAAMI for the 5.56 NATO is 58,000, but of course the aluminum AR receiver is built around a far different locking design. I'll be curious how the Huckleberries in aluminum hold up.
