Winchester Ranger .22 Leveraction

I haven’t seen anybody talking about the new Winchester Ranger .22 introduced yesterday. Looks like a decent little gun and the price is right with an MSRP of $419. I’d like to know where it’s made. I’m sure it’s not in the U.S. but who knows. It almost resembles the old 9422.

I may have to pick one up. I’ve got a Browning BL-22 but obviously you can’t have too many levers…

Nice. Normally I would guess it's Miroku made but at that price I can't see how they can have it made in Japan.

I saw it and was disappointed with the aluminium receiver otherwise it looks like the 9422 so it should do everything on the box.

The aluminum receiver doesn't bother me however an alloy trigger does. What's the alloy? Steel?aluminum?some kind of pot metal? Ya cant do trigger work( stone the surfaces) on pot metal and then there is wear from use... some things need to be steel, hardened and annealed for long term use.
Anyway it's got eye appeal, price is very reasonable too!

Looks like a Henry H001 re-engineered for take-down, as opposed to a lift-off receiver cover. This is not damning the Winchester with faint praise. I've had the H001 for three years and it's the most abused gun on the place. It's never failed to work and has proven surprisingly accurate with everything from CB caps to 60 grain Aguila. If I didn't already have it, I'd give this Winchester a try.

The Winchester site says "machined from a solid billet of aluminum." If it is something like the 7075-T6 used for AR receivers it ought to give fine service at .22 LR stress levels.

I should have grabbed a 9422M Legacy back in the day. I loved that rifle, but spent the money on a Browning 65 instead.

I'm actually impressed that Winchester brought this out with wood stocks, and at an affordable price range. I think they're going to sell a bunch of these, and I don't mind the aluminum receiver if it keeps the price down where most anyone can afford them. Other manufacturers need to take note, or play catch up now.

Back in 'The Day' there was the original Ranger, a model 94 with hardwood furniture and utilitarian finish, great for knocking around in the woods and critter-getting, but without the full Winchester price. Marlin had their Glenfield version of the 336 with the same features. They were both practical tools, just like the plain white 4-door 3-speed 6-cylinder Biscayne was to the Impala.

If the new .22 Rangers sell well enough, maybe there will be a 16" Trapper model, like my 9422M Trapper--super handy, super accurate.

I believe the receiver is milled aluminum and the metal is anodized receiver barrel. From what I can figure out Turkish walnut and made in Turkey. Now I wonder how accurate they will be. Wondering if a 22mag will follow?

It is anodized made from solid billet I confirmed from Winchester in email ,first shipments April/May
