You'd just about have to have your gun already in your hand...

That’s a tough one. Even if he was facing the street his time deficit was huge. Drawing from the drop could have succeeded if the lead perp was just using the gun as an intimidation tool, a poor shot or the gun was a High Point.
Kind regards,

I often sit on one and sometimes do drive with gun-in-hand. And keep one in the boot top for a spare . . . like 3-in-1 oil, ready as best I can

On of the things home invaders are doing here is ambushing someone taking out the trash at night. Sad to say I now carry going to the trash can. This is my around the house gun.

NICE! One of the things I like about Fall WX is a jacket with a pocket, an lcp, and my hand. My 45 is in the desk and in my hand if the dog or I hear sounds... OTOH if it's a loud awful close noise then the 45 is in the other pocket and the Keltec sub 2k takes the point with a 25 rnd magazine.

it still makes my head spin around to be trying to prepare for what is surrounding us

Needs a better perimeter and visibility. Porous property by the looks with foliage obscuring views of dead ground- looks like they emerged from a gully or lower level behind the entry point. Puts way too much pressure on reaction time. I'd be erecting a fence and making some landscaping changes or moving out.
