Hello all, been eons since I have visited here. I happened into a clean '94,with a sadly damaged front sight. I ordered the complete ghost-ring set from XS. Were it not for my arthritis, I basically could shove it into the dovetail without any trouble. Before going further, I want to get her to the range. So, i put a sliver of electrical tape onto the base of the sight. That seemed to add enough for it to need a proper hammer and punch to drift into place.
I fell in love instantly with the factory white triangle on the rear buckhorn, and the white stick of the XS peeking above it. I won't even install the dovetail...IF the pair works well, LOL. If I luck out, I have to consider the better fix. Leave it as-is, or peen-up the base of the sight a little with a stake-punch? I know that altering the barrel would be the worst choice.
Thanks!
Soloution for XS front loose in dovetail?

Peen the dovetail slot is what I would do.
You could also get some shim stock and put it between the bottom of the dovetail and the site with a drop of loctite under the shim.

Re: Soloution for XS front loose in dovetail?
My shooting partner has a .44 mag from the Smith Performance Center and the front sight was loose in the dovetail. A gunsmith staked all 4 corners of the top of the dovetail but it didn't hold. I peened the floor of the dovetail, the bottom of the sight and put in a drop of Loctite. It appears to be there to stay.
I'll remember the trick with the shim though. Thanks, Gunny.
