Re: fbi files
.
After World War 2, the German government allowed people to see what was in their files (and nearly every citizen had a dossier), and many people declined the offer, because it would reveal which of their neighbors, friends, and relatives had reported on them for 'antigovernment activities or ideas'. They felt it would just damage already strained relationships.
I find that fascinating.

Did you serve? Did you have a security clearance? They have a file.

Re: fbi files
I was stationed about 150 miles from home at my first base. I happen to be home on my Kelly day and answered my parents door. A very confused, not to mention young FBI agent was looking to speak with my dad. As it turned out about me. I didn’t know they did interviews for those. We had a laugh and he said he’d come back later.
I found out later they talked to a few neighbors also. But at 18 having graduated high school six months earlier and never been arrested there wasn’t much to investigate.
I wonder what it would say now?

Re: fbi files
There's only one way to find out Jeepnik! Please post your finds, it'll probably make for a good discussion.

Re: fbi files
I find it humorous... I got investigated when I joined the Navy, as I was a foreign born citizen that only had a Passport in my birth name, not my adopted name. Then again in boot camp for a security clearance. Again for joining a Sheriff's Department. A second time joining another Sheriff's Office... Once again when the rules changed after 2001 and you had to pass a background check for a hazmat certification... and now, every 5 years when I renew my license. I got investigated again when I got my first CCW. I figure my file is pretty thick with applications, and nothing negative!

Re: fbi files
If there is a mistake in the file, can it be corrected?

Re: fbi files
In my mantra of always trying to being the grey man the best I can, I think I will pass on asking them ! At the very minimum there will be a new entry in my file to the fact that I wanted to know what they had on me. My tin foil hat is getting pretty worn out. Time to get another one with thinker foil.
I wonder just how complete the information they give back would be. You all getting the idea that I do not trust them ? You would be right !

Re: fbi files
Even if they do send you your file, there's gonna be a LOT of black lines in it!

Re: fbi files
I don’t figure there’s much in mine. Yea, I had a top secret clearance. But that was 50 years ago. And if I saw anything I didn’t know it.
I worked a few navy ships at the shipyard. But that was 45 years ago. Never saw anything there so again couldn’t tell anyone.
I’d be a terrible spy, never been officially arrested, committed any crimes or caused anyone any problems. So they can investigate away.

Re: fbi files
Possibly but I'll bet it would be easier to remove the current President from office than to change your file.Joe Reilly wrote: ↑Sat Mar 04, 2023 10:31 am If there is a mistake in the file, can it be corrected?
