Little Bill
I may catch some flack for this one. I know how some folks feel about Commemorative rifles and their collector value. I bought a Buffalo Bill about 10 years ago. It has been shot and had a few scratches so it wasn't pristine. It was the rifle version and I hated it. I only bought it because it was $225. Too long and front heavy. It wasn't worth much and nobody wanted to trade for a shorty.
So what's a guy to do? Stand it in the corner for 10 years and wish it was shorter. Until today. I chopped it to 16.75". It's tiny. Here it is with my Red Ryder for scale. Still have to cut the front sight dovetail and a few other details but not too much left. Hope to shoot it this weekend.

Re: Little Bill
Take a gun, no longer really collectible, and turn it from something you didn't use into something you will use and enjoy.
Seems like a good plan to me!

Re: Little Bill
My thoughts exactly. It feels so much better now. Much handier and lighter. It should be a great little pig gun.
Re: Little Bill
No issue here.
A few years ago, I was looking for a later 94 Trapper in 30-30. Prices were stupid. I found a NIB Legendary Lawmen at a Cabelas in Nebraska for a reasonable price. When I had it shipped here, I saw the serial number was 25.
Yup.....shoots great.
While I wouldn't chop an old one that was original, I wouldn't let what you did bother you a bit. Now you have a handy rifle you will actually use.

"Oh bother", said Pooh, as he chambered another round.

Ida done the very same thing. I mean I would have had it done. Not much of a metal Smith. Looks good.
Re: Little Bill
Despite the supposed limited edition of it, it was not in demand for anything other than the fact it is a shooter. Good on you for turning it into something useful.

Re: Little Bill
Many many years from now on a gun forum someone's going to ask if Winchester ever made the Buffalo Bill commemorative model with a 16" barrel...
Nice job and now you have ANOTHER shooter...

Re: Little Bill
Got it all done and reassembled. I think it turned out nice. I added a Williams gallows type peep sight and I got the super tall file-to-fit brass Skinner front sight. Sighting in will take some trial and error.
I put the parts I removed in the pic for reference.

Re: Little Bill
Nicely done!!! And I don't think of short rifles as brush guns. I prefer the balance of a short levergun and almost all of mine have 16 inch barrels for a reason, I can get them pointed where I want from the seat of a patrol car, Jeep or pickup. The shorter sight radius has not seemed to handicap me in any way.

Re: Little Bill
Looks useful in the brush, and should still be good for less tight spaces.

Re: Little Bill
Look forward to seeing how it shoots.

Re: Little Bill
OOOOO, that's pretty! Shorter than I would like, but it WILL get the job done.
