I cast up a few of the 165`s today with the new mold just recieved from Ranch Dog .
Cast of wheel weights and with gas check they weigh 173gr.
I was running them a little too hot as you can see from the frosted one on the left. Well filled out but not as pretty as I like.
I dipped them in Lee liquid alox thinned with a few drops of mineral spirits and will give them two coats. ( I hate to have LLA all over the nose of my bullets and it is not needed there) Gas checks were seated and bullets sized in Lee .311 push through die.
I will post a range report in a couple weeks.
I will be comparing them to the Lyman 311041 with everything about the load the same except the bullet.
They are available now from Ranch Dog Outdoors. It was a group buy to begin with but RD said he is not going to do group buys any more. He is just going to put them up for sale at his site. http://www.ranchdogmolds.com/
BTW it took 215 days for Lee to get the last batch to him from the day he sent in the order! I want to buy the .35 cal mold as soon as they are available. I have 5 RD molds now and they are all winners.
My mould came Friday also and I managed to get a few cast in short order. I shot a few over the Crony today and hopefully can make it to the range in the morning. Mine came out of the mould about .312 and I sized them to .310. I don't like to get lube on the noses either but I thicken LLA by leaving it open for awhile then wipe it on with my finger, a light coat then gas check and size then wipe on a thicker coat. I sure like the looks of them, hope they shoot as good as they look.
I ordered a .224 mould from Mid South. they call it a BATOR mould whatever that means. It's a special order through Lee. They gave me a delivery date of Aug. 1,.
