Re: Primer Flash Test Photos by German Salazar
I remember seeing these or something similar before. Pretty interesting.
It would be cool if the SmarterEveryDay guy would investigate primer flashes with his high-speed equipment. (He's the one who built a cannon just to launch baseballs at above-the-speed-of-sound velocities...).

It's easy to see why some primers, with everything else being equal, will cause a high pressure issue.

Huge apparent difference in flash, subtler differences in actual performance. Interesting that the CCI BR primers seem so modestly behaved yet are preferred by many accuracy shooters.
Re: Primer Flash Test Photos by German Salazar
Interesting. Not sure how it translates to pressure variations.

Re: Primer Flash Test Photos by German Salazar
That's why I'd like to see the SmarterEveryDay dude do an analysis; too many unanswered questions:
- did the guy just isolate the 'peak' flash...?
- did he just get a 'random' shot of the flash...?
- how long was the duration of the flash...?
So much to analyze.
Of course most likely the primer-manufacturers have done much of the research, but may not want to publish it.

Re: Primer Flash Test Photos by German Salazar
As near as I can tell, those photos are from 2005. 6mmBR changed its name to AccurateShooter a number of years ago. The photos are still interesting, though. I wonder if current production primers are the same.
To answer some earlier questions, the exposure time was long enough to cover the complete ignition. This way you see the whole flash and the extent of the brightest flame. You can tell the relatively long exposure time by the long streaks made by burning particles as they travelled.
