Recoil pad Question

Post by pete-driver »

First post, glad to be here.
I just bought a Marlin 1895 guide gun in 45-70. Today I bought a Limb Saver pad but it didn't fit well. It's a bit under sized on the sides. I'll take it back tomorrow. So what do you recommend for a softer pad? Thank you John

I have a Kick-eez pad on my Rossi/.480 Ruger. Makes a BIG difference. Takes an abusive carbine( with hot loads) and makes it shootable.

Get a grind to fit Limbsaver pad. I cut the buttstock down on my 450M Guide Gun so it will be easy to shoulder with heavy/bulky clothing. The grind to fit is the way to go. Because of an artificial shoulder joint I use a Past recoil pad made for women that attaches to the bra strap with velcro straps. No I don't wear a bra thank you, but it works the same with a tank top worn under an oversized t-shirt.

I used a Grind to Fit Hogue on one of my rifles. Very squishy, probably like a Limbsaver pad. Really cuts down on felt recoil.

Here is my 1895 CB with a grind to fit Pachmeyer Decelertator pad. I used a grind to fit because I had to shorten the stock to keep the LOP the same with the pad installed. It tames the rifle nicely.

Each one of the "squishy" pads mentioned above will work great in reducing felt recoil. They are not as easy to "grind" as the older firmer styles but well worth the extra effort.

Thank you for the kind welcomes. I'm going to try the Pachmyer Decelerator (PREFIT) as I don't have the tools to grind a pad.Thank you. John
