S&W M&Ps

Post by 2ndovc »

I've really become a fan of the M&P and find myself carrying my 9mm Shield and full size 9mm much more often. I find that I shoot them better than my Glocks and really like the manual thumb safety. The full size 9mm, obviously bigger than my G26 but it's a bit thinner and conceals better, at least for me. I usually buy custom holsters but found a Bianchi that fits it and me perfectly. The Glocks aren't going anywhere, but I really like these S&Ws.

I got one of the subs when they were $300 minus a $50 rebate. If I can ever carry appendix again, I may utilize it. Otherwise, it's LNIB - haven't even bought a holster for it.

I've put Hyper Fire triggers in all of my ARs except my Windham that came with a great trigger from the factory.
I was looking at the M&P ARs but came across another Colt at a really good price. Still may end up with one, but I'm up to seven ARs already..

I have a couple of compacts, but for open carry, I still prefer my Model 39.

And here I was hoping to find a thread on "real" M&P's. You know the kind with cylinders.

I'm unfamiliar wth the latest S&W semiautos, but have long been a S&W fan in general. I carry a S&W 59 in 9mm in the cold weather when it's easier to conceal. I looked hard at the Shield compact 9mm, but didn't "pull the trigger" on a purchase.

I have those too, but not for carry guns.

They are very nice, but I am a 1911 fan, and wound up with a SIG P938 for my small-CCW gun (normal times I prefer a P-14 double-stack 1911 or a Taurus PT-92).

The small 9mm's are really an improvement in terms of recoil and reliability versus a decade or so ago, and will help many people have a better-power CCW option.

I prefer a 1911 as well but in a worst case scenario and I have to use it, I don't want a custom Colt 1911 sitting in a police property room.

A good pal has a M&P 45 compact I've shot quite a bit. By far the most ergonomic of the plastic guns for me and I can see how someone would go that route compared to a lightweight commander. His has never bobbled that I'm aware of and I've been present for probably 2000 rounds through it.

I'll stick with my Colt Agent (sixgun) and 2.5" Smith 19 for carry though.

Me too, I'm so out of touch with handguns (thanks to our government) that I didn't know there was any other kind...

I'm a big fan of 1911 style firearms, or single action semiauto pistols in general. I carried my 745 IPSC S&W for many years, but it's too big for most warmer weather. I used my Model 60 S&W in the summer, but wanted more than 5 rounds. So I carry a compact polymer framed 9mm with 10 round double stack magazine now. I hate polymer frame guns, just because I'm an old fanny burp that loves blued steel and wood. But I had to tell myself it's a tool, and not a piece of art like my old S&W 745, Colt Commercial, or Remington match .45 pistol.
