President Truman wasn't quite so terse. But, it was in effect the end of WWII.

All of my Uncles and two grandfathers served in the Pacific. My dad was the only one in African Campaign, Italian Campaign, and the invasion of France. But he was also the only ground troop. The rest were either USAAF or USN. August 14, 1945 was more significant on a personal level to my family.

Patton thought we should gather up the remainer of the German Army and march on USSR....I would have agreed. Too late now.
