Who makes an Inexpencive .22 LR Levergun?
I'm thinking of buying another .22 LR Lever gun and was wondering what manufactures made them that are under $400. I'm looking around $300 or less. So far I've found the Henry Model H001 for around $250. I have the Henry H001T wish is really nice and a love to shoot it. Problem is, so do my friends. I know, get my friends to buy there own to shoot, thats all well and good but even if they did I still would probably want another one. LOL!! So I'm looking to save up for another .22 Levergun. What would you all look at. Though remember I'm trying to keep it under $400 if possible.
Oh yeah, I'm also looking at getting a Left handed .22 Bolt action rifle. A Savage model Mark II-GL. It can be had for around $180 locally. So I might get that to hold me over a bit. Whatcha all think about this stuff? Thanks,
Heber

You could always get another Henry (think spare parts, etc.) but it is fun to expand your inventory and get different brands...
I love the light weight, smooth action, flawless feeding, and removable magazine of my Ruger leveraction .22. The lever throw is short enough I really just sort of flick my fingers so I can shoot it very accurately. I keep a red-dot scope on it for an easy-to-use, intuitive "first-time-shooter" gun, but have a rear peep I use sometimes for me since it is less bulky than the red-dot. Mine hits a 2" flip-up target at 75 yards almost every shot if I do my part. The only thing I'm not excited about is the beefy forend.
Here it is with it's Single Six shooting buddy...

If the non-cowboy-looking stock thing bothered me enough though, I could fix it in a couple hours with a rasp and a belt sander and a can of wood stain. As a shooter, though, I love it.
On here the 39A gets top billing, but seems expensive, and I'd rather have a shorter 'carbine' type gun. The 39A feeds shorts and longs both well I'm told, but I never use shorts except once in awhile to euthanize a trapped raccoon in our chicken house.
The other advantage of the Ruger is if you have a semiauto or bolt action Ruger, they all use the same magazines, and for the heck of it, you can slip in a 50-rounder for plinking and really ring the steel targets!
I think I paid maybe $225 for mine new a ten or so years ago.

That was my choice.
If you look around a bit for a good used gun you should be able to get a Marlin 39A, Browning BL-22, Winchester 9422 or Ruger 96-22 in your price range. You might well be able to get one of the Marlin hammerless .22s in that price range as well. All are good guns.

OK lets look at some choices that are within your monetary limits. You could buy the Henry lever. As said above they are very nice rifles. You could buy a used Marlin 39, or maybe top out your cash for a used, in pretty good condition Winchester 9422. You can search the used guns also for a Browning lever .22. These are sweet rifles. So what all this boils down to is, buy cheap new, a decent used, or save more money and get the best you can. I would make it a habit to frequent GUNS AMERICA, GUNBROKER, AUCTION ARMS, on the internet. Be patient, good deals show up frequently!! Hope this helps you. Also, there is RIMFIRE CENTRAL that has a classified section that carries a lot of ads for .22 rifles. I would go there first. All are .com. Art
Dead Calm is alive and well!!!!!!!
Sneak into Canuckland and pick up one of these Chicom 9422 clones for $198.00 Canadian:

Wildmanh,
I will have a pretty decent 1946 39A "shooter", for sale, in a couple of days.
I don't consider it a collectible anymore because someone put their DL#, under the lever, on the tang, and next to SN, the wood was "painted" walnut color, the barrel blue is a thinning plum patina and there was a side mounted Weaver on the receiver.
I'm replacing some screws, put filler plugs screws into the 2 scope mount holes, and oil finished the wood. I'm just waiting for the screws.
I'll deliver it to you for $365, with a slightly used, new production, Marbles
tang sight mounted in the factory d&t'd tang. ($130 new from Brownells)
Original buttplate, excellent wood to metal fit, great bore, original sights, but no sight hood.
If you're interested PM me and I'll get some photos to you. If you're not, then let me know and I'll let someone else here have it.

Sounds nice, but out of my price range right now. I'll have to pass to someone else. If it was 2 weeks from now, I'd have jumped on it.jdad wrote:Wildmanh,

JI,
I have it on good authority that the Norinco M-14's only make good tent pegs. two I've know about were only good for that.
As for a .22 levergun, you should be able to find a Marlin M39 for around $3-350 if you just keep yer eyes open and cash in your pocket. You'll luck up on one in a while.

No problem. I just thought I'd offer. I'm thinning the herd a little. I just consigned a nice prewar Marlin, "B" prefix, 39A and Model 37 pump, to Jack the Dog. They should be listed this Sunday.wildmanh wrote:Sounds nice, but out of my price range right now. I'll have to pass to someone else. The Henry is the best bang, for the buck. They're the best "value" out there.

WOW that is nice. Check out that price too! The part that really bites is that the US will not allow them to be shipped because it comes from China. Personnally thats BS. We import Chinesse products everyday. ITS BECAUSE THE DEMOCRATS ARE BOYCOTTING GUNS FROM CHINA! or GUNS PERIOD!
Couldn't find any used Bolt or Lever guns at Gunnies (Locally owned and operated sporting goods store with good pricing) yesterday evening. Went there for ammo but forgot my wallet. Didn't notice till I went to pay for something. LOL!! Did get to handle a Winchester WildCat .22 Bolt gun, pretty nice and it's on sale there till tonight. Played with the Ruger, Henry, Marlin and Browning .22 Lever action rifles.
Will probably head to Sprortsmans Warehouse this afternoon to buy ammo and check out the guns there. The WildCat for only $189.99 is tempting though....
