Made a couple coffee grinders, used the innards of a plastic grinder in the tall one the one with the wheel works better than you`d think.
Bought a couple on line also and will post as they arrive.

I've actually been savin' up for a new building. Maybe move my shop into it and use the old one for storage. I don't own a coffee grinder but Esperanza bought a sack of roasted 1850 beans (by mistake) so I need one. How does that one with the wheel work? Think I could build one like that. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

There are a lot of options on the wheel one, this one has a three inch dia. wheel that is 1/2 inch thick and the trough is 3/4 inch wide.
You can make it any size ya want, after making this one i would lay the wheel on the center board and cut out the radius the same as the wheel then it would crush on the ends also.
Here`s a video.

Pretty cool. Now you just need an old percolator type coffee pot that can sit on top of a wood stove. If the electricity goes out, no big deal.

Very nice! That burr must have been a bear to cut.

Thanks Kirk, yep that was tricky i don`t have any way of cutting a taper other than turning both feeds at the same time and getting them to match was time consuming .

Put a base board and painted the handle on the big one and made a bigger trough model out of walnut.

Thanks Grizz, the later has a four inch wheel and is 1 inch wide.
I curved the ends to match the wheel also, haven`t tried it yet as it`s drying.

All these wonderful coffee grinders made by Pitchy have reminded me about the Sharps Rifles that had coffee grinders in the stock, they were, I have read, supposed to stop the damage to stocks from being used to grind beans, or were they made because Coffee is IMPORTANT....

When my Dad was young, he and his older brother would go fishing and camp out. Uncle Homer was 16 years older than Dad. Dad remembers Homer using the butt of a pistol to crush coffee beans for use in a percolator. He had some sort of wood board with a carved channel to crush the beans on and then funnel them into the percolator. Probably home made. Lots of things were back in the 1930s. Dad made a coffee cup out of an old tin can and some twisted baling wire a few years ago just to show us what the coffee cups looked like. Simple and cheap, as well as a great way to use something that would otherwise have just filled up the trash pit. Odds and ends of baling wire were often twisted together to make handles for stuff.

I'll think this one over. You have no idea how rediculously STINKY my socks are at the end of the trip when I finally get out of them!!!
