Hey guys! It's been a while. My computer crashed and I'm having to borrow computers.
I would like a 44 mag handgun/levergun combo. The lever will one day be a Marlin 1894 Cowboy. The handgun is up in the air. I've never owned a handgun.
I've always loved the look and feel of the Colt SAA design (the few that I've handled). I know that design is not strong enough for the 44 mag. However, are there any quality handguns chambered in 44 mag that resemble the Colt SAA design, at least somewhat?
My son just purchased a LNIB Superblackhawk with a 5.5" barrel. It's an all together different piece than the 7.5 edition I had years ago which I didn't like.

Made by Sauer in Germany, handled a lot like a Colt. Out of production, but they still are available on the used market in .44 and in .357.
I never shot anything but .44 special in mine, and I really don't think a pistol that light with a plowhandle grip would be any pleasure to shoot with .44 mag. It made a heck of a .44 sp though, shot right to point of aim.
My 94 Marlin will cycle and shoot .44 special just fine, as well as .44 mag. You might consider a .44 special revolver (Colt or clone) and a .44 mag rifle, if you really want that Colt feel.

I believe they came into this country vis Hawes distributors. They are sometimes sold as "Hawes" revolvers, the Sauer name being secondary. ...but look under both names, to cover all your bases.

Plus one on the Old Model Vaquero. I've loaded mine in .45 Colt up to 23.6 gr. of H-110 under a 250 gr. bullet. John Linebaugh says I could go up to 27 gr., but the 23.6 gr. is MORE THAN ENOUGH.
I'm 6'2", weigh about 250, and used to shoe horses, so I have pretty good grip strength, and that load bugs me. With these guns, you can load them up hot enough that it just makes no sense, and still not hurt the gun. You WILL need to tighten up the gripframe screws, though. Probably after every cylinder.
NOTE: DO NOT USE THIS LOAD IN ANYTHING BUT A RUGER NEW MODEL BLACKHAWK, OLD MODEL VAQUERO, OR OR FREEDOM ARMS REVOLVER!!!

These are the reincarnation of the Hi hunter, Sauer, Hawes, and Arminius. All the same basic gun. But the EAA is still available as new.
PLUS ONE on the Bounty Hunter. I know a guy in Colorado that loads his WAY hotter than I would, with good results.

NOW I remember why I didn't like the Bounty hunter! They sound like they have a broken part in them, somewhere. They're functionally okay, I just hated that.

Actually, I have shot DA revolver and SA "plowhandle" revolver 44 Mags, and I much PREFER the "plowhandle" - it absorbs recoil by letting the gun lift, rather than pushing it all into your hand.
Doctors for Sensible Gun Laws "first do no harm" - gun control LAWS lead to far more deaths than 'easy access' ever could.
I'm somewhat fond of my 44 mag vaquero. It's not the most accurate 44 mag I've ever owned, but I have shot a half dozen or so antelope with it. It looks sort of like a model p.... from a distance.
