Just picked up this nice XTR, AE along with a Compact Leupold 4x rifle scope. Called Winchester this morning and found out it was made in 1987. Has a rebound hammer but no safety which started showing up about 1992.
Came with "see through" scope mount rings which I promptly removed. Now using Weaver bases with Leupold rings.
Usually I just throw away scopes I get on used guns but I found out this Leupold "Compact" scope was made in the early 80's and is somewhat rare (try $245 used and over $500 for one that was allegedly NOS).
This is one of the nicest post '64 model 94's that I have. May even carry it in the woods this fall.
Joe, you know we all tend to think less of the post-64 Winchesters, but frankly, they are fine, capable firearms. You'll be very well equipped with that rifle in the deer woods this fall. No flies on that Leupold Compact scope, either!
Should be s great rifle. I have ones made in 85 and 89. Mine shoot best with Federal 170s. The 85 is a plain rifle that looks like yours with a 24" barrel.

Just got back from the range. Sighted in at 50 yards with 150 grn Winchester rounds, and got a 1/2" group (that is all the farther I can see even with this neat scope). Seemed to hit almost same point of impact with 170 grn ammo.
Trigger is terrible but I don't think I will spend any more money to have a gunsmith smooth it out.
Love this gun and the Leupold scope. The guys at the range were really drooling over it.
The rebounding hammer action trigger pull can be improved with some judicious polishing of the those parts in the lower tang that move against each other.
There are many threads here where we have discussed this. Do a search and I'm sure you'll find at least some of them.

I knew it would group and if I could I would do the trigger for you, I can do them now with my eyes shut!
I bets that lever just clicks shut and does not want to spring open!
I have lost count of the times I have related how the lever should become nuatral in the final closing of the bolt all final lock up via the lug itself. Something that the later m94's failed with, the lever still thrusting on the bolt when in battery!
Anyway I'm glad for you and I just had to have a little rant
