Sure wish they would stop the madness
of daylight savings!!
Let's just change the time by 30 minutes and call it good! Everybody wins, half hour of extra sleep, half hour more day light.

Re: Sure wish they would stop the madness
DST seems to have come earlier than usual this year, for some reason. It was not on my radar at all.
Re: Sure wish they would stop the madness
I never really got it, it's the same amount of daylight, just a name change, does that really fool folks.?
I just read that the whole left coast wants to vote DST away.

Re: Sure wish they would stop the madness
Yes, but the idiots want permanent DST. Just one more step out of step with reality.

We once has 'regular' DST, way back in the day. Maybe a good idea at the time. That's when we lit homes with candles and kerosene lanterns.
2005, we went to 'extended' DST, moving up the start date in spring and making it longer in the fall. All in the name of energy savings.
The only people I have ever seen that benefit was the folks in the IS/IT careers where they made bazoodles of $$ reprogramming systems and software.
So saying, scrap it all and pick one or the other. Candles are now for romantic dinners and the kerosene lantern is for the backporch when I'm sitting there with my dog.
I have to remember when I go in tomorrow morning to update times for my locations in Arizona, since they did the right thing and aren't observing it it at all.

I'd leave it at DSL all year.

You like factoids …… here are some factoids about DST

P.S. The fact that there is no demonstrable evidence that DST does what it was intended to (save energy) is the best argument that ending the chrade makes sense.

Re: Sure wish they would stop the madness
There isn't an "extra" hour of daylight anywhere. It just gets moved around on the clock.

Just open the business an hour earlier and close an hour earlier. Of course, customers would complain. Complaining is a necessity to many customers. If you give them perfect service, they complain that there was nothing to complain about.
I just find the whole Idea of DST to be an old time product without any real use in the modern world. Leverguns on the other hand are still useful.

Yep. That's what they used to do. It worked just fine, and nobody pretended 'time' suddenly paused for an hour, or skipped ahead an hour; time was steady, and WE adapted. As it should be.

Re: Sure wish they would stop the madness
I don't like it being dark until nearly 9am in the morning in our area either. It is not good having kids go to school in the dark. Also, for people who work outside they lose the first hour of the work day waiting until dawn or the sun to rise, unless they delay the start of their working hours, which negates the point of changing the time in the first place. Daylight savings time was tried during the Arab oil embargo during the winter of 1973-74 to "save energy" with disastrous results and was stopped after that season because so many people complained about it. Depending where one lives in the time zone and the further north one lives, the result is even worse. It was tried and was not a good idea. It does not increase the total hours of daylight and, "robs Peter to pay Paul". There just are not enough hours of daylight in the winter to go around. I agree switching back and forth is a pain, but the best option is to do as we currently are doing, continue switching back and forth or just stay on Standard time all year as several states currently do.

Re: Sure wish they would stop the madness
I waked into Home Depot last night at 5:55.....they close at 7.....I'm just waltzing around picking up a few unneeded items when a worker asked me to please go to the register as they were closing....."closing" I said, "aren't you open till 7?". He said, "sir, it is 7".

Re: Sure wish they would stop the madness
BFD! I can't imagine all the hoop-la about one hour. Normally the time change is on the news, in newspapers and in Church Bulletins ("don't be late or early for services next week"). Originally it was to save an hour of daylight so as to conserve energy. Thinking congress can change DST is a pure fallacy, they can't do anything except complain about the POTUS and vote themselves raises. We need to concern our selves with important stuff, like 44-40 or 38-40? Carbine, Short rifle or Rifle? Smokeless or Black?

Not so Steve- I'm not mad, just wish they would do away with it all together. Pick a time and stick with it. Like I said orignally , change it be 30 minutes and everyone wins!
Besides- insanity is only a state of mind
