Back from Postal Match Hog Hunt- with Pics!
Returned home today from Ranch Dog's place in south Texas. We had a blast! We were treated as family from the start, and I killed a nice boar on the first evening. We saw more hogs, but never got another one on the ground. To tell you the truth, I could have came back without firing a shot and the trip would have been well worth while. We had a heck of a time with Michael and his family, what a great bunch of folks!
This boar is the first critter to fall to my 336ER, at least since I've owned it. He was only about 70 yards out, but I flubbed the shot a bit and the 356 slug hit him a little high. He only left four small drops of blood that we could find, but after a short search in the brush we found him about 100 yards from where he was shot. On dressing him I found that one lung and the liver were destroyed. The Speer 220 gr. bullet performed well.
I took out the 45-70 for the rest of the hunt, but it remained silent.
I urge those of you that didn't participate in last years Postal Match to get those leverguns out and shoot some targets this year. If your drawn for the Grand Prize, you'll be in for quite a treat!
