That's the output shaft on my front differential. Turning a corner in eastern Colorado, the driveshaft slipped back and disconnected... Left me powerless in the middle of the intersection.
Got the truck towed down to a shop in Goodland, KS and now waiting on parts.

Griff....sorry bud but as a good ole boy I'm sure you have experienced worse. It's just as we age, these breakdowns grow weary. Sooooo many times I feel like getting a case of whiskey and a keg of beer and sitting down drinking it until .....until....there's no more room left in my stomach.
My day was bad too but nothing compared to your driveshaft fiasco........three weeks of preparation and several hundred dollars later, I'm at the much anticipated long range match and the $700 Vortex scope takes a pelosi. One shot high..one low...another two feet to the left......Last month it was base screws that put me out. In over 40 years of playing with metallic sights on Leverguns I can't think of one time a malfunction keep me totally out of the match. I HATE scopes.
Maybe one day we will all have a life free of aggravation.----6
Griff, spent many a night in my sleeper at the Walmart in Goodland. Would take my hay loads straight south on 25, cross out of Kansas at Elkheart, cross the okie panhandle and hit my dairy for delivery just south of Dalhart Tx. Bypass five scales on I25 in Colorado and New Mexico that route.
This is plagiarized from someone else, but I love it!

It wasn't a choice.
I didn't become one later in life.
I was born this way.
Griff, my condolences and hope for a quick replacement.
A couple of my friends have been running their own log tractor & trailer rigs for years. I will see if they have ever had that happen.
I am curious as to know how much for the tow and an estimate of cost of repairs if that is ok to share. Will you have to eat the total cost out of your pocket?
Lordy, I sure hope not.
Thanks guys. I appreciate the commiseration... Yep, I gotta eat the whole expense. But, it'll be a little less than a monthly payment or two... maybe three!
Pretty good restaurant right at the motel... expensive, but the Prime Rib dinner last nite was super. The rib eye on Thursday was great, really tender and well prepared... Salads of real lettuce, not all those garden weeds the "healthy" places insist are necessary!
And I've not been all that lazy, getting a couple of internal parts I have for my pre-64 project rifle cleaned up from the corrosion I found on them... A new battery powered Dremel made the work convenient and rather quick:
When I get home, I'll set up the drill press and get them "engine-turned".

Goodland is usually the coldest place in Kansas. Elkhart, only one E in the name, is way South of there. It is just a hop, skip, and a jump from Pancake City. Lots of good bird hunting in the Western part of Kansas.

Well, it's been really pleasant the past couple of days. Enough so, I broke out the Hawaiian shirt. Repair bill was less than half what they estimated... so all good! That part is likely good for another 2-½ million miles!
