New Furniture on the Savage 99F
So after a few weeks back in July going back and forth on the butt stock dilemma on my Savage 99F in 243 Win, I decided to swap stocks between the 99F in 358 Win and the 243 Win. I ended up sending the 358 Win out West to have new custom set of stocks made for it.

Top pick is the 358 Win, bottom is the 243 Win. I’ve been stewing for awhile to get a nice set of stocks for the 358 Win. The stock looks really good but don’t care for the checkering so for now the 243 Win wears them until someday I may send it off to get it’s own set.Mainehunter

Macon Gunstocks out of Warsaw Missouri.

Nice people to deal with and was recommended by someone. Was surprised how quick the turnaround was since they posted a 4 to 6 month turn around especially with checkering services added. I'm very happy how it turned out!

Looks the the bolt was jeweled on the 358 as well; I like that too.

Yup! Both are coming up with me up to camp. I’m set for the 358 for cast loads but need to try out loads for the 243 Win. I’m going to add a 2x7 Redfield scope on the 243 Win since there have been some new clear cuts opened near camp. The only issue I have both rifles are not tapped for sling and really don’t want to add them on but having a sling really comes in handy so I’m seriously looking into these: Company called “Brass Stacker” make no drill harnesses for leverguns. They don’t make them for Savage’s but I’ve been told with the style of butt plate I have the Winchester 94’s will work, we’ll see.

I REALLY like Macon's checkering job
I've been using one of these Cordua carry straps for over 35 years.
It's easy enough to fashion one yourself, using some 1" wide Cordua belt material, a 6"x1/2" piece of elastic ribbon and a 1/2" long section of 1/2" black PVC/ABS tubing .
I like it because it easily folds up for storing in a jacket or haversack pocket when the rifle/shotgun is in my hands, hunting.

I like the picture and the time it took to set it up.
Those two rifles are good for anything in N.A.....those 358's are the s--t......----6

I agree with Six. The .358 would be my squeeze.
As for the sling, I can go with or without. It's too easy to have the rifle on your shoulder when it should be in your hands. Shots come quick sometimes.
I will admit though, they are nice to have.

Keeping the rifle in hand is a must especially where I hunt. Some areas are pretty thick, no more than 15 yards. I did loose a nice buck heading back to camp one year. Wasn’t paying attention had the rifle slung up when he popped out of nowhere. He was more surprised than I was! The sling is good when I’m trucking to my stand, climbing a steep hillside or crossing a creek

I hear you. My stomping grounds aren't far from yours, I don't think.

East Carry Plantation, East side of the pond. It seems ever since Westinghouse bought out Plumb Creek 2-3 years ago they have gone back to some areas that been harvested 4 or 5 years ago to re-cut. Doesn’t make a lot of sense .

That's where I thought you guys were. We are East of 201. Kingsbury, and now Brighton.
Yeah, thats the game of forest "management". They "selectively" cut......then sell it. Then the new owner "selectively" cuts the same areas.

Hi, I am looking for opinions on bedding the tang area on a grip. Well I am trying to buy new one. I am really inspired by this stock.

Bump to top.

Re: New Furniture on the Savage 99F
I have a 99F in .243 and it is a sweet shooting rifle. Sort of like shooting a .22 magnum in recoil compared to some of my other rifles. My buttstock has the typical crack in the tang area, but it isn't bad, so I live with it. I did do a little glue job to stabilize it , and it hasn't moved any. I guess the .243 doesn't have enough juice to finish it off. I wish I had an extra stock laying around though!
