Buck season is over for me this year. Got a decent 3x3 mulie opening morning at 9:10AM. Wasn't able to use the new 1885 Winchester I took along, as the report was for heavy rain, and I didn't want to take a chance. Instead I took my old standby, the Rem. 700 in .22-250. (yes, it's legal in Oregon!)
Found this guy with a harem of 16 does, and after a long belly crawl I was able to drop him as he got up out of bed with a neck shot.
He went around 160-170 lbs., and is at the processor now, so should have steaks by the time we leave for elk season!
Yea, it's about 8-10 more miles to get into the timber, but I like the open country, as it seems nobody else wants to work that hard to get within range in the grassland. I saw him at 600-700 yds., and worked my way up to about 400 fraom over the hill. Then it was belly crawling through the tall grass to about 275 yds., where I took my shot. With so many eyes watching me, that was as close as I dared get before sitting up and firing.
Where in Oregon were you hunting? The picture looks like the country up near Condon. My wife's family is from near south of there where we see some nice bucks in the alfalfa, but when the season comes they head up into the rims and down in the canyon and make hunters work hard.
This isn't far from Condon, at Hepner. Same thing there too. I got this one in a swale just below some rimrock. Took over an hour to hike the 2000 ft. elevation change to reach the top of the ridge from the truck. No motor vehicles allowed in this area, so everything gets packed in and out by hand!
We caugt a few nice trout after the hunt too!
marlinman93 nice buck. I count 12 trout, no limit in Oregon?

He stated that the way I feel.
Knowledge is all we do, see, touch, hear, read. What we do with that knowledge shows our wisdom.
Thanks guys!
Butcher says he's really backed up with beef processing, so not sure if he'll get done by OAC on the 4th Sunday? If he does I'll bring a plate full of jerky to the show!
