New 1885 .30-40 Photos
I've been on a single shot kick lately and had been looking for a 45-70 when I can across this one on Gunbroker. It's a Uberti/ Cimarron in 30-40 Krag which happens to be another long time favorite of mine. The rifle is coming with an MVA tang sight and adjustable front globe, along with the 30" barrel and double set triggers it should make a dandy target rifle.

I sure wish Uberti or Pedersoli would make them in .32-40!

Thanks Guys,
It's here and even prettier in person! I'll get some more photos this weekend. I have to wait a bit to shoot it. I had to order new glasses and I'm blind as a bat right now!

Re: New 1885 .30-40 Photos
Sweet-looking, I must say. Do keep us updated on the shooting. I had a chance at one of those a few years back and passed. Got a feeling your reports may cause me to regret it...

Great! I have been reading Townsend Whelen lately and an 1885 in .30/40 Krag was plainly his favourite rifle before 1920. He references it constantly and took it hunting all round the world.

Re: New 1885 .30-40 Photos
Still waiting for the new glasses! This sucks big time. I was told I have diabetes about a month ago. I've been dealing with the rest of the BS that goes with it pretty well but the shift in eyesight really has me bummed out. I've gone from hardly needing corrective lenses to very heavy ones. I'm being told that it will level out but it's going to take some time. Hopefully the new specs will be in soon. I've been struggling through the days with a cheap pair of reading glasses.

Re: New 1885 .30-40 Photos
Jason that must have been a hard diagnosis to get! I didn't know eyes could change that fast with diabetes. I sure hope your specs show up and your new rifle is a tack driver!!

Re: New 1885 .30-40 Photos
A fine outfit for sure! Just wait till your glasses get here and you can see how really nice it is. What would that sidearm be, a Schofield, maybe in .45 Long Colt or a S&W cartridge? With that campaign hat (?) and fine knife, it looks like you're about ready to take on anything.
Re: New 1885 .30-40 Photos
Topic drift: take a good vitamin for your eyes. Bausch and Lomb make some good ones. It wouldn't hurt to take some Bilberry. I have been told I have type 2 diabetes and my Opthalmologist has said that there is no evidence. My eyes have gotten better in the last 2 years. Not only that, but I have only started to show slight evidence of cataract formation in the last year. For a light blue eyed person of Irish and German heritage over 50 years old living in the Dallas, TX area, I am about ten years late to start forming them. About half of the blue eyed people in my situation have had cataract surgery by age 50. Take something like the AREDS 2 formula.

Re: New 1885 .30-40 Photos
Thanks for the kind words guys! Thanks to Brian as well for the advice I will give it a try.
The new glasses are here and I can finally see my keyboard and more importantly I can see the sights on my
new rifle! Going to try and get out Thursday for a trip to the range.

Re: New 1885 .30-40 Photos
Nice configuration Jason. The 30-40 ranks on my "top 5" list for a cartridge that responds to cast bullets like there's no tomorrow.
21 grains of 5744 will send a Lyman 311284 215 gr. g.c. bullet onto little targets out to 600 yards. The idea is to keep the velocity at 1600........learned that from the writings of Colonel Whelan---6

Thanks Jack. I just happen to have that load written down in my Lyman manual labeled "Sixgun's Krag Load". I had posted some results the last time I had my Springfield out.
