I hope when I finally get round to it I do as nice as you have done. I have a Solingen 10in. Bowie . Scales would be Ivory Micarta with tacks like you used.

I had heard that they had gone to (yuch!) stainless, which really for that knife just ain't right.
Would post pictures of mine, but it's beyond ugly. Had it on a shelf near some miracle-gro, that attracted water and that one and several other blades corroded horribly.
I threw some scales on it with wood from a dearly departed backyard ash tree and now it's in my work suitcase traveling chef's kit.

Nicely done.
How new is that blade?
That carbon steel will take a wicked sharp edge.
Thanks, folks.
IDK how long the seller ( http://www.crazycrow.com/onlinestore ) had it in stock, but I bought it about 10 days ago - it's not stainless, but it's plenty sharp !
A good carbon steel blade will hold a good working edge. If you want, you can use some vinegar on the blade to put a patina on it so that it helps prevent rust.
