I ended up trading my Bushmaster DCM rifle, with a forum member for his unfired in the box Browning Model 71. It has a vintage "Lyman 66MA" receiver sight mounted and came with two new bags of brass, two boxes of Barnes 250gr bullets and a set of RCBS dies.
I was hoping to sell the DCM to pay for another levergun purchase, but I couldn't turn down the offer My Winchester 71 has some company now!
Leveritus is a disease with no cure!

Thanks guys, the wood sealed the deal for me. I usually just buy standard models rather than deluxe/high grades, but I try to find them with wood that makes up for it a bit in the looks department, never have cared for checkering much either.
The quality in the Brownings really is top notch, any one have any idea how many 71's they made?

I have all 4, 2 carbines and 2 rifles in Lo and Hi grades, plus an original Deluxe 71. I can't even imagine selling or trading them. Definately one sweet rifle. I shot a large spike elk in Oregon with my original 71 back in about 1986. It was a broadside shot at roughly 50 yards. He flinched a little on impact, took about 6 or 8 steps, and dropped like an anvil, using 200 Gr Silvertips.
To hell with them fellas, buzzards gotta eat same as the worms.

With regards to your Barnes bullets, my load is 59.5gr Reloader 19, FederalLR primer., 2" groups at 100meters, old office eys. Will hopefully be able to give report on reaction of big spring bear to load soon. I took a medium black bear last spring with a 200grBarnesX, one shot and down the hill he rolled , a medium sized 250lb bear. I'm holding out for a big guy this year.
Thanks,
brucew44guns, that is quite a collection! You need to post a picture of them all. Browning lever actions are addictive, I picked up an 1886 SRC last year and have a feeling this one wont be the last.
big bear, thanks for the load data, I was wondering what is the favorite load with the Barns 250gr.

Salvo very nice stock on your Browning M71.
These Brownings are great rifles and very accurate. Friend of mine has the same model with a Williams firesight. Here he uses the gun at the 200 meter range.
Salvo,
He shots Winchester factory 200grs. ammo and his toploads are Barnes 220grs. FN, 50grs. H380, CCI 200 and Barnes 250grs. FN 48.0grs. H380, CCI 200.
