Thinking about getting Uberti Colt Lightning. What do you
Love my levers, but have picked up a couple slide action 22's this summer and they are fun too.
I like the look of the Uberti and would like a 357 this time.

Ps. I know it's been a while.

That 357 pump does look good I like it to but I haven't handled one . Those 22 pumps are almost addictive I sold a Rossi I had years ago it wasn't a tack driver but is was one fun little gun .

I've read of many problems with these. The Pedersoli version is better from what I've heard. But, so few show up at cowboy matches, even tho' they're desired, as they're fraught with issues. ISTR that Nate Kiowa Jones (Steve's Gunz) has worked on these, I'd contact him to get the low-down.

Thanks, I will look into that. The Pederosoli is really expensive.

I kick myself again for not buying an original colt lightning that a friend of the family had. Still had great blue, original finish on the wood. Was a 38-40, shot it a few times but just wasn't that interested in it 20 odd years ago... What a dumb azz!

Re: Thinking about getting Uberti Colt Lightning. What do yo
Ive also heard cowboy action shooters saying the Lighting copies didn't work well. Im not sure they were that great in the original version either, but for a new gun, Id expect more reliability out of the Italian copies, but it doesn't seem to be happening.

A few pages back We had a discussion bout the pump action rifles. You can read what Steve said about them. http://www.levergunscommunity.com/viewt ... =1&t=67926

Of the clones the Pedersoli seems to be the one that works best.
As for why the CAS guys tend to not use them, I think it's more to do with sight bobble/recovery slowing them down. A well tuned levergun can be run by just flicking your fingers to lever while the gun is firmly supported by your off hand. In the case of these pump guns you are using your off hand to work the action causing the sights to move too much. About the only time they are competitive is on dump targets.

Think it was the Taurus version that gave these a bad name.

The Taurus barely got out of the starting blocks before it's rep took a nosedive... the Uberti had everyone's hopes up, but alas, tweren't to be!Bill in Oregon wrote:Think it was the Taurus version that gave these a bad name.
