New Henry 44 BB Steel

Post by Wildgoose »

Rifle arrived just after Thanksgiving. No surprises. Its a nicely finished rifle with no apparent issues. Cleaned it and slugged the bore. It came out at .429" as expected. Ran a few test rounds through it and dry function was fine. I will try and get it out to the range some time as I have some old 240 grain .430" Hornady XTP hand loads left over from when I had my now long gone Desert Eagle pistol. I will start looking for a mold but need to do some thinking about just what I am looking to do with cast bullets for this gun. I may do some pistol caliber lever gun silhouette. Just not too sure yet. Plenty to ponder and that's where the fun is. :D

Sounds like you have a lot of fun waiting on you. Having heard that Henry is sending the part I need to fix an issue I have with one of their products, I am liking them even more. As far as quality, my H001 .22 lr levergun is as good as I could ask for. Based on Denis' torture test of a Golden Boy, it is doubtful that you or I will wear out any part of our rifles.

Went with the 20". My old eyes need all the sight radius I can get. Might be looking into a rear peep or ghost ring too. Really don't want to go to a scope if I can avoid it. Until I get it out to the range I wont know for sure but the standard sights with the white diamond inset in the rear may do ok at the ranges I will be shooting this gun.

I have been looking a what will cost me to pick up the needed bits to cast bullets for the 44. I will need a mold, top punch, lube sizing die and gas checks. And that's just to shoot one bullet type so if I want to play it will mean more molds. That kind of money sure would buy several different off the shelf ready cast bullets for a guy to experiment with. I may do just that this time around. Any body have any experience with the new coated bullets from Missouri Bullet Co. ?
