Magnificent Seven
I just wanna say that I had my doubts about the new "Magnificent 7" movie.....but it was really good. Especially the homage to Steve McQueen. Lots of great gun handling/ shooting scenes

Re: Magnificent Seven
Interesting! My kids where here for dinner tonight and talking about it. #3 son,who just turned 21, commented:.... "But there will never be another Steve McQueen" the conversation then shift to " The Great Escape" and how today,s movies aren't even close. There may be hope for the future!

Yup - I planned to see it, even if the critics yelled, "Stinko!"
All the better that it has a good screening. Looking forward to seeing it!

Re: Magnificent Seven
So what was wrong with the original movie that required it to be remade

Well, in the first place it had too many Samurai in it... so they had to get some cowboys.gundownunder wrote:So what was wrong with the original movie that required it to be remade
Seven Samurai = Magnificent Seven = Magnificent Seven
Yojimbo = Fist Full of Dollars = Last Man Standing
Hidden Fortress = Star Wars
etc.
The film industry could do a lot worse by doing nothing but remake Kurosawa films...

Re: Magnificent Seven
I really want to see this. Not that I expect it to be better than the original; I don't think that is possible. Rather, I'm looking at it as another version of the theme, with some strong actors, so decent potential. If it gets another generations interested in westerns, that would be great.
I did hear Denzel Washington giving praise to the guy who taught him fancy gun handling - none other than Thell Reed!
Just that alone should make it interesting!

It is nice to see Hollywierd produce a Film without the foul language, nude scenes, and sex acts of lust or perversion.
Thank you, Producers and Makers for a very enjoyable Film. And for making a Western!

Re: Magnificent Seven
Well it's been so long since I saw the original, I don't remember it anyway. We saw the new one a couple days ago while in OR and I loved it. I have no problem with remakes, MOST of the time. Every once in a while they really screw one up but I thought this one was excellent.
I am a big Denzel fan anyway, so I knew I would like it.
Guess I'll have to rent the original and compare.

Re: Magnificent Seven
I have heard good things about it. I was worried that it may have way too much computer generated graphics in it like the Lone Ranger. I did not like the Lone Ranger for many reasons.
Hoping that this one is a good one.

One thing that detracts from a good Western is if they have period incorrect, or unrealistic firearms. The old movies usually had nothing but Colt SAA's and Winchester Model 92's. The new ones usually put a bit more work into getting things a little more historically accurate.
