Hobie ???
Is Hobie still a member here, or did he abandon us like a lot of others?
Just curious, haven't seen his Hobie in a long time.

Yeah to me it kinda does. The red signifies a moderator or administrator. If he's not here to do said job then the title needs to go to someone who will be.
I know to all you that are in Hobies clique that probably sounds like sour grapes, but I've not been included so I'm just a regular member. Sorry if that irritates some, but as I said, JMHO.

Re: Hobie ???
Hmmm. In my short time here it hasn't made any difference what members are called. Hobie can stay red as far as I'm concerned. Is there a quota on posts per month, year, etc. to retain a "title"?

Well, I for one would not volunteer for the job of Mediator for this forum. I think it would be a full time baby sitting job. Refereeing "Old Pharts" rants vs. "New Guys" questioning the "Old Guard" just ain't worth the headaches that go along with it...

The FB gun groups are much like this forum was 8 to 10 years ago.
You'd be surprised as to how many former & present members of this forum are on FB.

My wife has a FB account. She uses it for her "craft" things and people. I read over her shoulders and she can spend more time there just catching up on what happened since she was there yesterday that she forgets she has a home, husband, and other things to take care of.cshold wrote:Shouldn't knock Facebook.J Miller wrote:I couldn't care less about FB, I don't have an account and this is the forum I'm on. It's also way to complicated for me. Forums are simple compared to the mirad of pages and sections and what not in FB.
I wouldn't even know how to find a shooting section there. Besides, isn't the creator of FB anti-gun? If so why make him any richer?

Even an old forum like this can cause problems.
Example: post count number syndrome & moderator power play.

Forum activity has really slowed down over the past few years. (Not sure about the spam issue)
I do believe eliminating the red and green names wouldn't be a bad idea.
Just my 2 cents.
Re: Hobie ???
Regarding Facebook; tonight I got a call from my Pastor. Seems my Facebook account was showing some rather "non-Christian "postings". My name was being attached to some "shares" of questionable content (porn ), but it weren't me!. A lot of my "Facebook friends" were my Church family, and they know I'm just an old drunk tryin' to get to heaven, but it is embarrassing. I dumped Facebook ASAP!

You'd be surprised how much spam the forum gets. It tends to come in waves, and it has been better of late, but there was a time when we were getting dozens a trash accounts trying to be set up every day.cshold wrote:

The guys with colored names do have duties to perform. All we are trying to do it keep this forum cleaned up for all of us. I'm happy we have a team doing it - way too much for any individual, even if this was all they did. No one is trying to clamp down on what we all say, but just trying to keep the place respectable.
As for post count, if you comment on a lot of posts, pass along congratulations, wish members happy birthday, pray for fellow members and pass along your condolences when needed, you'd be stunned at how fast one's count goes up. I don't think any of the high count guys are trying to have high counts. Who cares after all? Rather, they are trying to contribute to making this the best forum on the web, which it is. We support one another, which is why I come here. A true band of brothers (with a few sisters for good measure)!

But really it's about how much time many people waste each day on ANY computer forum! As I get older, I have begun to think about every wasted hour or day, and spending even a couple hours a day throwing the time away is precious time lost forever!

I've known Hobie on here since 2003 I think, maybe earlier (yes this forum has been around awhile and through several versions). As much work as he's done for this forum, even if he never does another lick of work here, he deserves to keep his badge.

Sometimes it gives people a big head and makes them thing they are superior. Once, on another forum, I questioned someone's explanation and quickly received a reprimand informing me that he had xx,xxx posts and I was out of place to question him.
Personally I sort of figured a high post count probably meant someone was retired and had a lot of spare time on their hands.

Re: Hobie ???
Hey, I resemble that remark!!! and before I retired I worked in local government so the same thing applied.....BAGTIC wrote:"Really? A high post count causes problems?"
Personally I sort of figured a high post count probably meant someone was retired and had a lot of spare time on their hands.
Whatever you do always give 100%........... unless you are donating blood.

Re: Hobie ???
I don't know about everyone but some of us that were more active at one time or another still visit the site. Just don't post as much for one reason or another.
I have not had too many lever gun project going on right now so just haven't had too much to post about. I tend to have ADD or whatever. Right now I am hooked on Case knives pretty bad. I tend to get hot and heavy into one thing and its all I can seem to think about and then a few months later I will be on to some other hobby.
I have noticed forum member activity down on several other forums also. I know a big chunk of that is the groups on facebook but with the gun groups being under somewhat of an attack by the liberal facebook lately some members have been coming back to the actual forums, even if at a trickle.
I would not worry about it too much. Enjoy the people who are here posting and when others post when those slow down just enjoy the content of which is active at that moment.
