Charter Arms Finally Brings Out the .45acp Revolver

Post by Blaine »

Several years ago when they had these in 9mm, and 40 they kept saying as soon as they beefed it up a bit, they could bring it out in .45acp.....
I always wanted one of these. It just might satisfy my current want to buy another handgun.
A nice companion to my 625-3.

------------------------------------ From Their WebSite

Introducing the Charter Arms .45 ACP caliber Pitbull. The unique design provides a dual coil spring assembly located in the extractor which allows for the insertion and retention of the .45 ACP caliber cartridge in each chamber of the revolver's cylinder. (No moon clips required) This patented system allows the shooter ease of ejecting spent cartridges for immediate reloading.

Charter Arms has taken the difficulty of rimless loading and ejection to the simplicity of the rimmed cartridge in the revolver industry.

Very nice lightweight revolver......... I bought one of these and will be buried with it, if the Relatives don't find it. finest revolver I have ever held. It is slick with .45 colt loads, and even better with the .45 moon clips and shoots ACP like a .22 .

I'm holding out for a Southpaw version. I like my .38 spl Southpaw, but one in .45 acp would be ideal.

I hate to see a nice feller stuck with a crappy old revolver like that. :D

Oh, I like that! 5 shot I assume? Can you still use the full moon clips in it? They really make for a quick reload and the brass is so easy to find.
I have an old Smith 1917 that somebody chopped off to 3 1/2 inches that I just love.

No Moon Clips needed. They extract just like rimmed brass.

I would think that if the cases seat deep enough for the extractor system to work, that moon clips won't work.

Moon Clips expressly NOT required.

(BTW, I can fire acp in my 625 without clips, but you have to shake the brass out...no extraction)

Took them long enough. Seriously. It's been years since they first announced this. Not sure I want one anymore. :p

May have to try and find one of those local so I can drool on it. That would make a great walking around the desert gun for when we make the move to Az here in a few months.

In the pic, the angle of the grip frame in relation to the barrel sorta reminds me of the DA Adams revolvers Custer was reputed to have carried on the LBH. Very easily pointable. .45 Colt, huh? That's right up my alley! jd45

Yes, I've made other choices and purchases, too. Too bad - .45 ACP cases are abundant; good 45 ACP factory loads are abundant; plenty of punch for the size; but you can also mate a variety of bullets mated to a a power level you can handle in this snubbie. Even acknowledging that bullet configurations and metallurgy have made other calibers more viable for self defense these days, we keep coming back to the fact that the 45 ACP pretty much duplicates the great old .45 Colt and is ideal or at least one of the best self defense loads.

I like also that .45 ACP handloads easily fill the case sufficiently so that you don't worry about gun position and how it affects consistent ballistics, although close up that is not as much of a factor.

It would have been a great emergency gun at around $500.00 for 1911 users, should their main gun end up in the shop.

I have settled on my armory, but at an earlier time I had been awaiting this arrival and would have snapped one up.

The cheap-o, 230 grain FMJ rounds are low pressure, and don't have that ear-splitting CRACK that most rounds have. Of course, ear protection is de rigueur, but in a SD situation inside the home, you might not have that option.

That would make a dandy throw-in-your-jacket and go gun. Hopefully, Charter's quality control has taken a turn up from when I bought two of their 44 spl's back in the early eighties. I shot both of them loose after maybe 500 rounds each. And when I say "loose", it was coming apart loose.

No, they were not Elmer loads, just 250 cast at 750 or so.

It's worth looking into. My guess is their extraction is mechanically similar to what Smith and Wesson did to make their 9mm revolver work.----6
