Call to ban Leverguns in Australia
The new Alder Lever Action from Turkey has caused a stir, with our left wing looney media describing it as a 'high powered rapid fire shotgun'. Most Australians have been starved of a repeating shotgun since the carnage of the 1996 gun buyback, so these are proving incredibly popular with over 3000 on back order for th first shipment of 300 in the next couple of months. Now sections of our government are wanting to make Leverguns category c or d putting them out of reach of most Australians.

Re: Call to ban Leverguns in Australia
No government has any business 'regulating' what kind of firearms the citizens possess...
...but then on the 4th of July I has a U.S. police officer tell me that although "The Second Amendment means the government has to let citizens own some kinds of guns," it doesn't cover 'gun accessories', so suppressors wouldn't be 'protected' - but not to worry because the government only 'taxed' them - and even though the tax was 1,000% to 2,000% of the cost of the item, it was 'reasonable'. Then he said that 'sawed off shotguns' should be banned because they weren't useful for any legitimate purpose, including home protection.

Re: Call to ban Leverguns in Australia
Seems to me that more people in Australia have been killed in the last few years with cricket bats and balls than with guns. Perhaps if one million or so shooters started to vocally campaign for the banning of such dangerous sporting equipment it would give the retards in Canberra something else to focus on, so they'd leave us alone for a while.

I agree. Ban golf clubs, baseball bats, or any number of other things that are used far more often to murder than whatever scary-looking gun they're after this week...gundownunder wrote:Seems to me that more people in Australia have been killed in the last few years with cricket bats and balls than with guns. Cars... don't forget the ban on cars and other motorized conveyances... they cause more deaths and mayhem than all other forms combined...
Besides, maybe I can then make some money raising horses... not that they don't pose their own unique hazards...

Are pump actions legal? If so, then that looks like a good alternative. Sad what those in the Media do these days, to bad business leaders and other successful people would start opening collages, that teach the truth rather than the socialist indoctrination they call education today.peter richards wrote:The new Alder Lever Action from Turkey has caused a stir, with our left wing looney media describing it as a 'high powered rapid fire shotgun'. More than 6600 Australian shooters have ordered the Turkish-made shotgun that uses lever-action cartridge loading to bypass strict bans on semiautomatic firearms.
The shotgun, the Adler A110, has a seven-shot magazine and goes on sale in Australia in two months.
The Adler’s lever action means it is legally available to general Category A gun licence holders and is not restricted to the strict Category C, semiautomatic classes.
Australia banned most gas-operated and pump-action semiautomatic firearms after the Port Arthur massacre in 1996, when the National Firearms Agreement was introduced. However, the agreement allows “lever action or repeating bolt-action shotguns”.
There have been other lever-action shotguns imported into Australia since the ban, such as the Chinese-made IAC, but reliability problems and a high price limited their appeal.
The Adler sells for a much cheaper $800-$850, which is one of the keys to its popularity, according to importer and sole distributor, Queensland’s NIOA.

I'm REALLY liking this shotgun ESPECIALLY the straight grip 20" barrel model. Not that I could ever afford one but I recently wrote the Adler company asking if they have a US importer. I'll see if they reply. Why should the Aussies have all the cool guns?
Available in the following two models:
• 20” barrel with straight grip stock
• 28” barrel with pistol grip stock
Features:
12Ga 3” Chamber
7+1 magazine capacity

Barrels feature ventilated rib with brass bead
Alloy receiver with 3/8” dovetail rail for optics
Ventilated recoil pad
Turkish Walnut stock
Sling swivels
Steel shot compatable up to half choke

Re: Call to ban Leverguns in Australia
The reason they have been so popular is that pump actions are out of reach to most Aussies & they certainly fill that gap. I use my IAC 1887 clone pig hunting but they are unreliable. I have 4 original 1887's but they are too nice to nice to bounce around in the back of the truck thru the bush.

Are not the Italian made by Chiappa 1887 clones available in Oz? I have heard they are much nicer fit & finish, and way more reliable than the Chicom clones.peter richards wrote:The reason they have been so popular is that pump actions are out of reach to most Aussies & they certainly fill that gap. They are available but over $1600, the IAC is about $800 & the new Adler about $750.

OUCH@$1600.00! I also can't believe how expensive those Chicom pieces of junks are there, they were selling here for about half the price though I wouldn't buy one anyways.peter richards wrote:Ji

From what I have seen the Turks make very high quality arms using innovative designs. I can't wait to hear you review. I'd love to get one with the 20" barrel and straight grip. Hopefully the banning effort fails.

The action is reminiscent of another hammerless levergun the Savage model 99 though the lever looks a tad frail but I'm sure it is much stronger than it looks and well tested for durability.

Re: Call to ban Leverguns in Australia
Hey Y'all, in todays paper they announced a 6 month freeze on the import of these shotguns because they are dangerous weapons capable of shooting up to 8 shots in 8 seconds. The claim by the anti gun lobby and the anti gun politicians is that the import of these guns is an attempt to circumvent the anti pumpaction shotgun laws that were introduced after Port Arthur. The stupid bar stewards really don't have a clue, and unfortunately are perfectly happy being totally ignorant of all facts about the real world.
