Brown Tinted Glasses As An Aid To Seeing Game

Post by Blaine »

I forget which one, but a high end Scope manufactory tinted their lens light brown and claimed that it enabled one to see the brown-colored game easier. Sort of made sense. I wonder if a light brown tint on ones shooting glasses would do the same? (dang, I'm bored this afternoon  )

Maybe a picture of a Deer on the side of the scope would help in case they forget what they look like.

Try drinkin' a beer next time you're in the woods and see you can find deer better by lookin' through the bottle like a telescope...

Why not? Some people find dates looking through the same goggles.

Fine.

BTW, they were Steiners, and it was called a Penetrator IR something or other. It brought out the browns you were seeing and made game more visible. Bite Me

Blaine, I think you're talking about Steiner Predator binos. I almost bought some for elk hunting but got a great deal on some Bushnells.

I'm guessing they work on the same principle as the 'HD' sunglasses and such that they advertise on TV, cutting haze and glare by filtering out blue wavelengths?

Most of the polarized fishing glasses I've owned had a brown tint.

Yep a light amber. DeCot makes 'em in all shades from clear to dark browns & blue. Matching them up to the light conditions and target color can really help. I had a set when I shot skeet.

Don't know about that but I do remember some years back, an old WW2 vet told me that the officers in charge were looking for guys who were color blind. They claimed that the guys who were color blind could see camouflaged enemy soldiers better than regular guys.

I'm color blind and have a hard time distinguishing between browns, reds, and greens...even orange.

I've shot my share of deer and just today, I noticed a nice buck out back that was bedded down that my wife had a hard time seeing......and she don't wear glasses.......like 4 eyed me. :D -----6

Depends on how many of them thar beers ya have
Sorry, couldn't resist.

Brownish tinted sunglasses cut the blue wavelength light which makes for better contrast. Polarizing filters cut down on the horizontal light wave- lenghts (especially by the water if I remember correctly). 8)
