Seth Rogen and Micheal Moore slam snipers
Michael Moore CLAIMS his uncle was killed in WWII by a sniper. Claims snipers are cowards because they won't fight face to face. (They also do not use IED's and their kids, or someone elses' kids as shields or bombers).
Michael Moore is no coward, never saw any MEAL he was afraid of. Now barbers, he's terrified of them.
Moore also CLAIMS he is not referring to American Sniper, but his timing sure is a coincidence.
Rogen claims its like some movie they were watching in the film, Inglorious Basterds. Never watched that show so I have no idea, but doubt it was a compliment. Too bad those fella's weren't over there helping out our troops. They might feel differently having a sniper on overwatch, when they were busting down doors. Of course neither of them would, unless there was a fresh pizza inside.
Moore was NEVER on my list of films or makers to watch, and Rogen has permanently removed himself from anything I would ever give a second glance to.
Saw American Sniper last night, and while it didn't match the book 100%, it was an accurate depiction, and an excellent film. War is hell no matter where it's fought or against whom. But the word fair doesn't even enter MY mind when dealing with people that will behead innocent women and children, much less the soldiers they capture.

Yep. "Fair" fights are fights to prove a point, or settle 'pecking order' on the playground - War is not either of those, and the only thing there is to win, and do it within one's own moral constraints. In the current situation, there are NO moral constraints I can see to the other side, so we are already hampered by our own moral constraints - adding further constraints under the guise of "fairness" is NOT a good idea. Fight to win.handirifle wrote:. . . the word fair doesn't even enter MY mind when dealing with people that will behead innocent women and children, much less the soldiers they capture.
In a way it reminds me of the movie "Patriot", where the Redcoats were shocked that the Americans would do such horrible things as "ambush" or to pick off their officers, when in their morality those things were simply 'wrong'; however they showed no hesitation to burn children, rape women, and so on. Two different versions of morality, but only one I could 'side' with.

Re: Seth Rogen and Micheal Moore slam snipers
I don't think that I'd be mistaken in stating that during the longer part of 'shooting' war history, sniping as a technique of war has often been considered cowardly even by military professionals.
This changed somewhere in the middle of WWII. Apparently, being subjected to unrelenting enemy sniper attacks in combat changes attitudes, and turnabout IS fair-play.
As I recall, our military forces didn't even have a formal sniper training program until sometime during the Vietnam era. Before that it was informal, whichever guy in the squad could shoot best became the designated shooter, and the training units were disbanded when the war ended.
When tales of privation, endurance, and remarkable performance started to be revealed after Vietnam, Snipers started becoming rock-stars, and 'Sniping' as a tactic got some respect.

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.
History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

Re: Seth Rogen and Micheal Moore slam snipers
Someone may want to clue Mr. Moore into the role of the sniper ......gathering intelligence and acting as overwatch to protect allied troops from ambush.
Though I doubt Mr Moore has the intellectual honesty to acknowledge that his comments on the conducting of war time operations are as relevant as my thoughts on properly lighting a scene in a movie.
I would however enjoy seeing him wander into certain watering holes known to be frequented by Seals and opining that Snipers, Seals, and Chris Kyle in particular are damnable cowards. That would be a heckuva short but intense bit of entertainment.

Re: Seth Rogen and Micheal Moore slam snipers
Why does anyone pay attention or care about what Michael Moore has to say? Really.
If one looks even half hard, one will always find someone with something really really stupid to say. Why bother listening?
At one time the British thought Americans were cowardly, hiding behind rocks and trees while shooting at them, four abreast in their bright red coats. Maybe they were right. But war is about winning. They lost.
"ef'em" (and Michael Moore too) to put it politely.

I'll listen to what they say after they have been shot at a while. I've never been shot at, so I generally keep my pie hole shut on matters that involve being shot at. Moore obviously does not spend much time with his pie hole shut.

Re: Seth Rogen and Micheal Moore slam snipers
You are correct, and even in Vietnam, many upper ranks felt folks like Gunny Hathcock were avoiding real fights. Snipers, however WERE used even in the civil war. Many soldiers on both sides died to sniper fire at Gettysburg alone. I see sniper fire as precision warfare. It's warfare that can topple the enemy from the top down or bottom up, whichever way is most expeditious to the end goal; to win the war.FWiedner wrote:I don't think that I'd be mistaken in stating that during the longer part of 'shooting' war history, sniping as a technique of war has often been considered cowardly even by military professionals.

Would Moore's father have felt better if his brother (assuming the moron is telling the truth) were shot in the back or the chest by a regular Japanese soldier? Dead is dead. I agree no need to listen to him. He's a pig and always will be. Condemning capitalism all the while getting filthy rich from it. He's is a poor excuse for humanity.
Seth Rogen is following closely in Moore's footsteps. That's dangerous ground, for many reasons.

Perhaps Rogen just figured this was just one more movie based on or churned out and covertly financed by the US Navy / US Government propaganda machine (Act of Valor, Lone Survivor) That is only very loosely based on actual events (Lone Survivor) , or has no basis in reality whatsoever, but was merely penned as a recruiting tool (Act of Valor)

Both are complete idiots who's think their thoughts on matters such as these matter. They live in a country protected by men such as Chris Kyle and they enjoy their freedoms because of them.
I think Moore is still butt hurt over Eastwoods's success in making hit movies and I think Rogen is just butt hurt over his moving tanking and American Sniper doing great.
They are not worthy of even being mentioned in the same breath as the likes of Chris Kyle and so many others who serve this country without question.

I agree. Moore didn't even say anything until the movie profits started showing up. I think he is jealous of the money that American Sniper is making. I am not an actor or a director, so I am not concerned with the profits. I plan on seeing American Sniper this weekend.Rube Burrows wrote:Both are complete idiots who's think their thoughts on matters such as these matter. Their slam only matters if they matter, which they don't, therefore their slam is irrelevant to anything. Why do you give these goof balls credibility by caring what they say about anything?

As far as the morals / tactics of our military. I was taught that if you are in a fair fight, your tactics suck!

I think it's time we all pulled a Dixie Chicks on Rogen and Moore, especially Moore. The response they got from the heartland of America after running their mouths pretty much ended their careers.

Re: Seth Rogen and Micheal Moore slam snipers
Saw the movie last night and really enjoyed it. It followed the book for the most part, and important parts, with a few "add ons" for "Hollywoodism". Lots of f-bombs though, which I imagine is how life in a war zone actually sounds like.
BTW, I remembered when seeing the movie that Chris Kyle volunteered to help go door-to-door with the Marines to help them clear houses. In the book (and movie) he has a ton of respect for the Marines, but also knew the SEAL training was better and wanted to share what he learned with them, once again (just like his primary role of sniper) - to keep them safe.
Hmmm, so Kyle volunteers, in a war zone, to take on one of the most dangerous jobs around, just to help his fellow military peers. Doesn't sound very cowardly to me...
...then again, Michael Moore and Seth Rogen obviously have a ton of personal experience with pure cowardice, so they would know...

Later on stage Eastwood told the audience what transpired. and as they (the audience) were laughing, Eastwood said, "I meant it too". They laughed more.
I bet Moore wasn't laughing.

Hey, now that's a good idea. Celebrity ambassadors are all the rage in this administration.
Of course, I would suggest that Yemen is the place that needs their particular brand of expertise. Hear they got lots of stray guns running around in Yemen right now, Moore can be ambassador and do a movie on the side, Bowling for Yemen.
I'm sure the Yemeni rebels will be very appreciative of his insights

Look up the descriptions of Navy SEAL training. Cowards could not make it through something like that.
As far as AJMD429, yes the other Physicians are technically his peers since they do what he does. However, he rises above his peer group in my opinion. I deal with Doctors on a daily basis, and see some good and some bad ones in the group. Most of the Doctors I speak with will ask me what I am talking about when I tell them that based on a patient's response to certain medicines that they are a +1 or a -1 on the 2C19 of the Cytochrome P450. That is the enzyme that breaks down certain medicines such as Statin drugs. AJMD429 has never had to ask me to dumb down anything that I am talking about so that he can understand. I can explain it to most people, but the fact that I have to explain it to Doctors is what annoys me. Doctors should know as much as a Pharmacist does about the human body. Some of them don't appear to. If AJMD429 ever gets to the Dallas area and has a little time, the offer to take him out to dinner for some good Tex-Mex will stay open indefinitely.
