C. Sharps 44/40 arrives in Oregon

Post by earlmck »

Fellow Levergunner Mike Armstrong was thinning his herd a couple of weeks ago when I piped up and said "hey, I'll take that'n!"

So Yesterday this arrived at my friendly local FFL fellow (Ray at "Prepper Up"). And these are not PhotoBucket pictures so you need to click on them to get 'em full-sized.

And of course I have to show off my newly acquired "bore photo taking" technique:

I think you can see that the rifling almost but doesn't quite make a full turn in the 26" of barrel (well, say about 24.5" of rifling).

But it will be a while yet before I can try this beauty: my skin doc had persuaded my I should do this treatment that makes skin quite photosensitive and so essentially has me confined to quarters for the month (I had picked January thinking I wouldn't loose much outdoor time then anyway. And Central Oregon has had the nicest January in recorded history this year . I should at least have a nice variety of ammo to try out by the time I escape my incarceration.

Pard that is a very fine rifle you have there. That should be a very good shooter. What a great platform to test 44wcf loads. I look forward to a range report on this one. ,,,,,DT

I'm OK for components, especially if the new rifle will accept the MagTech brass that is a scosh too thick for the Rossi 44/40. And I have the 200 grain Lee bullet that does well in the Rossi and then a batch of heavier bullets I have used in 44 mag revolver that I hope find a use in the Sharps. And unlimited powder, especially if she likes Green Dot.

Mike says he has run a couple hundred rounds through it since he bought it new in '09. But you couldn't tell that by looking: it appears like new.

Dang Earl, that's really nice. You're gonna really enjoy that rifle.
I have trouble with too thick a brass to allow me to load .429 bullets. Only Starline and Winchester work really well and almost never give me any trouble. I have a bunch of Remington brass that I reserve for use in the Uberti 73s or the Rossi. It's only my Colts that give me any trouble with too thick brass.
Give her a try with a case full of ffg for some real fire and smoke!

What bbl length? Lookin' forward to the range report!

I have to do the "face burn" thing also. My doc told me to wait till after I qualify for Medicare, as they'll cover it. In he meantime I have to do the chemical peel. Hurts like heck! I dread it! But, so does his constant freezing!
