Who does restorations on old Marlin
or replicates Marlins from the JM era? I 1968 have a 336 in .35 Remington that I would like to have redone, stock and all.

Re: Who does restorations on old Marlin
I called and talked to Mike. He said he prefers to do prewar guns only now. My gun is from 1968, probably should have made myself clearer.

SB find a reputable gunsmith in your area that does their own blueing . Generally a decent guy that blues can do what you want . I've done my 1966 and 1967 Marlin 444's . Had my gunsmith buddy reblue them both and I did the wood myself .

Re: Who does restorations on old Marlin
Toomanytools on the Accurate Reloading Site did a model 12 shotgun for me, quickly, at reasonable cost and did very nice work.

Ben Forkin does excellent work. You will find his contact info on the main page under leveraction gunsmiths. Best of luck, 1886.

His work is fine but IMHO I think he's highly OVERPRICED !Bronco wrote:And then there is Turnbull! Awesome work but price. Look at the colors of his bone hard facing.. like a rainbow

Re: Who does restorations on old Marlin
I think I saw this gun on Gunbroker anyway I saved the picture . It was a First Model 444 and I had thoughts of having a color case done to the action on one of mine when I had an overabundance of 444's !Bronco wrote:Pricey I agree with , but his work is better than fine .
If I run across another anytime soon for a cheap enough price I might just do the case color thing to the action . lever and hammer . Reblue the barrel , refinish the wood and have it checkered .

Re: Who does restorations on old Marlin
Not sure how much your budget will support or what you consider restoration but Dick Williams gunsmithing in Saginaw, Michigan does excellent work.

He rebuilt ..... literally salvaged.....a Krag for me years ago by replacing the barrel with a Remington 700 barrel in 30-06 that he re cut the barrel shank on. Tweak and repaired other parts and turned a parts donor Krag into a hunting rifle for $150 (that's total.....parts and labor).
Likewise I had a rough condition 2" barreled S&W 36 that went in to his shop looking like it had been sorely abused and neglected and came back to me a couple weeks later looking factory new with a 3" barrel and a great trigger job. The total was $135 (but I provided the barrel this time).
And he is some sort of magician straitening & taking dents out of shotgun barrels.
