Family was all about knockers, and kraut....Since it's just me, pizza comes to mind, or maybe buy a nice steak and veggies for the cast iron....

Corned beef with a penny hidden in it. Whoever finds the penny is supposed to have good luck for the rest of the year. Of course, if you swallow the penny, or crack a tooth on it, I suppose that's bad luck!

A few years ago it was Alka Seltzer and 11 Bloody Marys (with lots of Tabasco). By lunch I was back to normal and could keep down solid food....

blackeyed peas and cornbread, and anything else you can throw together with that, but it seems like ham and candied yams always turn out

someone with southern heritage can tell you the difference between field peas, purple-hull and black-eyed.
someone without it probably hasn't even tried them

the tradition is every pea you eat on New Year's Day is a dollar you will earn for the year.
Hopefully inflation has improved the return.

In my youth having Polish and Lithuanian roots the standard was baked ham, two or three types of sausage, potatoes, kapusta( that is cabbage or sauerkraut in Polish) as well as some type of green food such as green beans or peas.

Today my wife and I will most likely eat out. We may go to this place which serves the best sushi and sashimi in the area.

This year they were accompanied by smoked ribs and smoked mac and cheese.

We ate roast beef, roast potato, fried onions, mixed Veges.

A steamed Christmas pudding with custard and cream.

Remember it is summer here! Traditions from the olde country!

We had a big family BBQ on Boxing Day- I found an old lounge suite in the garage and put it on the lawn under the trees. It was darn hot that day.
