Guys,
Going through some of my stuff tonight.
What would be a reasonable amount of let's say .44 mag. 357 mag. or maybe 30-30 or even 30-06 and for giggles .45 acp.
I really think I may have a problem.
Is 1000 each crazy? 2500? How about 5000+?
Wondering mind needs to know.
I quit counting .44's at 4500. And I know I got more out in the garage.
I knew it was over 2500, but over 5000, I guess I've accumalated for 30 years.
Maybe a little better tracking system needed.

I even got ammo and brass for calibers I've never even had the guns to shoot them in. You never know what you may need
Too good a deal to pass up or got thrown in with something else.
I know you guys can understand, but like ollogger said some people might not.

Who knows? But I was getting worried when I opened the last tub of cleaned brass for the 45 Colt... only three 100-rnd bags of new Winchester brass. Then I opened the Dillon tumbler... about 300 more freshly tumbled 45 Colts! I have a couple of .223 ammo cans of loaded rounds... and about 4 or 5 loaded 100-round plastic boxes of different loads. Different bullets and powders... all for different purposes... too many? Not hardly!
Several hundred shotshells... both Winchester AAs and Remington STS and a dwindling supply of "Blue Magic"s... I load the AAs with BP and the Remingtons with smokeless. They'll probably last me a very long time... as the cost of lead shot has made buying new ammo more cost effective.
As for other calibers... they're just in bulk ammo cans... many bulk boxes of bullets, both cast and jacketed... all for a particular purpose... too many? I don't think so. Having a goodly supply means my reloading chores can be put off for months, during the colder winter and hot summer months.

There is a fine line between hobby & obsession! AND... I'm over it!!
No I ain't ready, but let's do it anyway!
I would think that a reasonable number of cases depends on the caliber.
Almost any common handgun caliber would require a few thousand cases minimum. Rarer ones require as many as you can get.
Rifle cases?
.223/5.56 several thousand. Other standards maybe not so many. .308 and .30-06 I figure a bunch and a half. .45-70 I only have a couple of hundred and am always looking for more (cheap).
I no longer pick up 9 mm empties at the range. I have been reloading 9 mm empties from the same 5 gallon bucket for over ten years and it's still over half full
neil If it doesn't fit in my sea bag, I'm not going!
Reasonable number? Whose reason? I have a 5 gal. bucket full of .22 LR bricks and loose boxes. I started storing mebbe 8 years ago (no particular reason, I just bought some when they were on sale or whenever I visited my "dealer"). I have mebbe 1500 rounds for my Garand (with 500 cases and mebbe 1K bullets), and a like number for my 1911s. But for my babies, I have at least 1,000 loaded and ready .44 Magnum rounds, and about 2K cases and nearly a 1/2 ton of lead for my casting .44 bullets. No idea about many 7.62X39, 7.62X54, .303 British, .223, .38 Spec., .357 Mag., 9mm, 45 ACP, etc, stuff on hand. This would seem excessive to some liberal anti-gun nut, but for dedicated shooters, just a drop in the bucket...

Lucky guy. Mine gave up when I started shooting skeet. 10-4 on the shot cost. I have primers, wads, and powder, but only buy shot when I catch a deal. Wish I had listened to my brother, he wanted to split a pallet of shot about 10 years ago. We'd still be shooting it.

I'm not paranoid because I carry a gun. Why should I be paranoid. I've got a gun.
You guys will probably think I am nuts - I have got:
36 x .44/40
80 x .30/06 of 180 grainers
29 x .30/06 of 150 grainers
50 x .257 Roberts
15 x .303
But I really only shoot at deer, so that's enough for the rest of my life really
But I need more .44's, going to have to get a box of bullets and load up so I have 100, and at least another box of factory .303. That should do me.
