The Woodwork Spits Out A Fine SA Colt

Post by Sixgun »

Another beauty from an old estate here in Pennsylvania. I've been negotiating for this one for some time. Waited for the factory letter, blah, blah, blah. Its in 45 Long Colt, 5 and 1/2, blue & color with original walnuts. I cannot find any evidence this gun has ever been fired. I took it apart and found no powder residue anywhere, and that includes all of the little nooks and crannys us guncranks know where to look. The front of the cylinder is clean with no burn marks. Its been played with, with cocking and all. Cylinder bushing looks new and base pin is 98%. This might be the find of my lifetime.----------Sixgun

Nice find. :? Seems like all of the good stuff is in PA, CT, rural NY, TX, etc. I wish more retirees from up there would bring their "good stuff" down to FL with them when they come. Amazing CC and bluing on that thing for 1917. What a great piece. I suppose it will soon be in a holster hanging on the wall next to the Marlin Bee "Cat" rifle, and the 25-20's, and the Zipper, and all of those other "nice finds" you have leaning against the wall.

Having collected Colt SAA's for nearly 25 yrs I agree that is a great find! I have one nearly identical to it; 5&1/2" 45, but it was refinished by the Colt factory in the 1940's or 50's. It has the "&" stamp on the trigger guard.

Thanks a lot guys. This Colt has me a bit edgy. I was just looking at it and its moving all by itself---RIGHT TOWARDS A BOX OF 45 L.C. AMMO :D Man, I gotta sleep on this one.

I hate the feeling you get after a long chase thats been going on for close to a year and then you score. Its a mixture of happiness, closure, and depression. The depression comes from the fact I ain't gonna have no play money for months to come. -----------Sixgun

You're one lucky man. To me the only way it could be better is with it being a 4.75" bbl.

over the years I found 7 SAA Colts in estate and yard sales .

A .38-40 was among them... and a .32-20. Most 4 5/8 and a couple of 7 inchers... the best one was about 75-80%. The bad one of the bunch was a .45 that looked like someone drug it with a horse for a year...but it locked up tight
The rest seemed to have spent a lot of time in sock drawers or closets

I must say yours is spectacular.

All 7 represented an investment of about $1500 bucks in the late 70's and early 80's... as fate had it I was short for cash and sold them all short.

the things we learn ...eh

Dude Jr,
I did not hide that Colt from your Mother. She has already seen it. She did not ask me what I paid for it. I did not lie. I walked in the door and showed her this nice Colt. She say's, "nice gun". I say "yep, she's a beauty". and then I continued to say, "well, it looks like I might have to sell one of my Smith & Wessons or Rugers to pay for it."

Why wait until I'm dead until you get it. I'll make a deal with you. If you can get home in 6 hours or less, you can have it....free. :D The clock starts clicking...........................now. Hey, you only have 5 hours and 59 minutes left to make it cross country.   -------Your Pappa

Hillbilly,
Been there--done that also. Back in the seventies I had a 85% Bisley that I sold for 4 c-notes............oh, no sense in thinking of the ones that slipped through my hands---it just gets me down. But.......I have learned from my mistakes and in my later years I make sure the good ones stay put..............................but (again---but) What good are they as you age? I don't need money like I did when I was young. The only thing you get from having nice stuff now is, I guess, braggin' rights :D -----------------------------Sixgun
