Our governor is on the right page
Gov. Matt Mead is adding a new rifle, made in Wyoming, to his personal collection.
Mead commissioned a custom version of Wyoming Arms’ WY-15 .223, an AR-15-type carbine. The governor’s personal model will include custom engraving of the state seal and the governor’s signature.
The gun is made for use in the harsh environment of the Wyoming outdoors, according to a Wyoming Arms statement.
The governor said that he won’t hunt with the rifle but that the gun provides sentimental value.
“I don’t know that I’ll hunt with this. It’s a .223, and for example for antelope hunting, I have a different rifle I use,” he said. “But my kids and I and sometimes my wife, we like to do target shooting. We certainly will be doing that with the rifle.”
The governor’s rifle will be built with another soon-to-be-Wyoming company’s products. Magpul is supplying a selection of 10-, 20-, 30- and 40-round magazines for the gun, including special-edition Wyoming magazines featuring the state’s bucking horse logo.
Magpul Industries’ move to Cheyenne will create 91 jobs. The state of Wyoming is providing an approximately $8 million grant to Laramie County for the purchase of the facilities the company will take over.
Standard models of the WY-15 start at $3,195.
Mead said he’s seen the rifle but hasn’t paid for it yet.
“There will be further discussion in the house,” he joked, referring to family finances with his wife, Carol Mead.
For the governor, the rifle, built by Wyoming companies, provides a sentimental value higher than the price tag.
“I thought that it would be nice to have for sentimental value for me to have a gun made in Wyoming,” he said. “Wyoming Arms, they’re a very good company, and they build a very good product.”

unbelievably large amount of coverage on all the TV station news broadcasts also. Even the reporters here to earn their "reporting" learners permits must have been told to report with enthusiasm because they all behaved themselves.

Nice rifle but price is a little steep @ $3100 or so. Don't care for the fluted barrel though.

You can have him...rogn wrote:Could we borrow him for a while.? Rogn; Peoples Republic of MD
I'm not a big fan of "establishment" RINO/Lawyers, but he's be just Right of Neanderthal to MD voters... so he's be a breath of fresh air there.
Here, I'm plugging for the (Mechanical) Engineer/Doctor/Rancher who was not involved in the sordid, petty personal back-and-forth endemic to the Mead/Hill campaigns/administrations...
