My two boys like to shoot my STI 45's, but they require earmuffs and an abundance of safety. We recently found an alternative for them to ease the itch to shoot the pistols. This STI DUTY ONE AIR .17 is a full sized model, 29 ounces. It recoils upon firing and has noise not quite as loud as a .22 rimfire. It does shoot single action only. There is a Heinie rear sight that is adjustable and the front sight is dovetailed. The grips and mag release are same as the centerfire version. It uses metal 20 rd magazines. When the gun is fired, the slide operates and cocks the hammer. It locks back when the last round is fired. The only difference is the "kid-safe" trigger. The trigger must be pulled about .65" of take up before it stops. From that point on it is the actual trigger pull which is about 6 pounds. Full length guide rod too! The pistol keeps steel BBs inside the 1.5" orange bullseye dot at 15 ft. Lots of fun for under $100!
When Summer is here, they should try it on grasshoppers. When you start hitting grasshoppers at 10 to 15 feet with a BB gun, then you can have a whole Summer full of targets.
