OT: Pre 64 Model 70 in 264 Win Mag

Post by Palmtreee »

I have a few pounds of WMR, Winchester Magnum Rifle powder that I would like to load some 120 grain Speer bullets over. The problem is that I can't find a load listed with WMR powder. Does anyone have an old loading manual or a good load for the 264 they would like to share.

I have the Ken Waters' Pet Loads Vol 1&2...and he lists one load he recommends (only one load for the 220 Grain Speer Spz) as follows.
51gr. of HP-101, Length 3.30, Primer Fed 215, MV 3,041 and the remarks are a very fine moderate load....found nothing for WMR powder however.

I would be glad to provide you with other loads he recommends in different bullet weights.

I thought 160 grains was the largest bullet available for the 264 Win Mag?

Sorry...my typo mistake...I meant to type 120gr....Waters' Pet Loads go up to the 156gr Norma RN
The most accurate full power load listed was with a 125gr Nosler as follows:
63.0gr of H-4831, length 3.33, Primer CCI 250, MV 3,217

Thanks for the help, now I have a burn rate to work with. Keep an eye out for any WMR loads for the .264 if you can.

I was looking at a powder burn chart and it lists WMR just after Accurate Magpro. Here is the link. Just copied it from another site (Castboolits.gunloads.com surplus powder section)

I must be going blind(OLD)...changed the above load per the book(Edited both posts to reflect same)

Best All around hunting load as follows...
140gr Nosler, 62.5gr of H-4831, length 3.34, Primer CCI 250, MV 3,173

I checked Winchester, they (website) sent me here:

http://data.hodgdon.com/cartridge_load.asp

I would post an email through the link and see what happens.

I looked in my old manuals and then websearched the powder,
powder came out in 1994

It's not for the 264, but these links will give you some comparison choices. if you don't fine an actual manual laod, you can do some math and exptrapolation and get pretty close with these numbers.

270: http://www.reloadammo.com/270load.htm
6.5-284 (5th paragraph): http://www.chuckhawks.com/6-5mm-284.htm
Good luck. I am a die hard 264 WM shooter too :D
