US Patent 524702 for the Winchester Model 1894 was applied for by John Moses Browning on January 19th, 1894 and granted that same year on August 21st, 1894.
Yep, for that cartridge group, and the 1886 for the big fellers, and the 1892 for the pistol sized rounds and the 1911 for the one handed up close shooting rounds and well I think you get the idea,

Thanks for saving the time for me to think out the words on that one. ----------------6

We didn't have that long.
I was going to add, "... and if he'd only designed that one, he would still be worthy of: " Then for it's sheer simplicity, there's the 1885, and a well... just a HOST of others.

There is a fine line between hobby & obsession! AND... I'm over it!!
No I ain't ready, but let's do it anyway!
The 1894 is pretty much perfect for a woods rifle. It may not be as accurate as some bolt actions, but I have had a few that would give any crank action a run for its money. It might not come apart as easily as a Marlin, but you don't have to take it apart as often as a Marlin, either. The dropping link action makes it a bit easier to keep clean than the '86 or '92. I have spent lots of time with most of the Winchesters, the Marlin 1893, Savage 1899, etc. and the one I keep going back to is the 1894 in .30WCF. That is for real woods use, carrying on long hikes etc, not riding around in a truck with it.
