336 RC Texan in 35 Remington

I picked up a 336 RC in 35 Remington at Cabelas on Friday. Like most purchases I didn't go in looking for it. I saw it in the used gun rack and knew it had to come home with me. It is a 1954 model Texan with the straight stock. It has been shot quite a bit, but in great condition, great patina on the wood. Probably a family heirloom that the kids didn't want because it wasn't a high powered bolt action magnum. It has a 3x9 Cabelas scope with shoot through mounts. I paid $450, so I think it was a decent deal. I must be a good friend because I called a buddy of mine when I found it and told him it should be in his gun safe. He is starting to catch the lever gun fever. I already have 3 30-30s so I really don't need another lever gun in that size, but if he changes his mind I surely won't argue and let it be in my safe. The more I look at the rifle the more I like it. I figure I would take off the scope and add a Skinner peep and she would be ready for the field.

I'm also partial to those Texans and other straight grip Marlins. Just picked up this one in 30-30 last week, did a little stock work and added a Skinner Express. Mine is a 1982 version. Don't think I could have walked by that one of yours, either, without taking it home. You did, well.

Dandy rifle, If you don't have a straight stock 336 I suggest keeping it. The straight stock models are not seen often in my area. The barrel band lso makes it a true western rifle imo.

Bought a 30-30 like that in 69, 1971 I traded it for a motor cycle several months later
while on that bike & speeding a dump truck pulled out in front of me
Long story short I wish I would have kept that gun

Good score! I would likely hang on to that one myself. I have been looking for a .35 Rem locally but the few I have found have been way too high (mid $500s and up for a worn rifle with no scope).

I have one straight stock 336 that I ended up putting a set of XS sights on (ghost ring rear and big white bar front). Not precision sights, but plenty easy to see and work just fine for the ranges that I will ever shoot at.
