It sounds to me as if that other forum has a little trouble with knowing when the horse has been beaten to death.

I'd have added color, but aren't sure just what part of the color spectrum gives you trouble besides shades of brown!

In real life may you be the bad butt that you claim to be on social media.
I have one 30-30, one 32 special and one 35 Rem. The 35 Rem was used today to take a broken 8 pt whitetail. He weighed 190 on the pole. The 35 hit him at the point of the shoulder, and he dropped as if hit by the hammer of THOR. DRT. I carry the trapper 30-30 as a truck gun and it resides by my bed the rest of the time. The 32 I have 10 boxes of ammo for but am still having trouble getting it sighted in. Think I need a different front sight. The 35 Rem is a Remington model 14 and I think it will be my go to gun for hunting for a while. Circa 1927, I was happy to get it back in Penns woods doing what it has done for nearly 9 decades.
I will sit back and watch to see where this thread goes.

I've no disrespect for the 30-30 as I have shot quite a few big game animals with it. I find the guns that I am shooting the 35 Rem out of more desirable. The Remington Model 8 and the Remington Model 14/141 are great rifles. The 35 Rem has been much less picky to reload for, satisfying several of my rifles in that caliber with excellent accuracy with a variety of powders, charges and bullets. My 30-30 Marlin, Winchester and Henry are a bit more particular, each prefering it's own loading much more than other combinations of powder, charge and bullets. I find the noise level less piercing with the 35 Rem than the 30-30. The recoil in the 1908 Model 8 is hard to describe but similar to a small gauge shotgun. The 1939 Remington 141 has less recoil than any of my 30-30's. That is the product of the rifle though, not the cartridges. In our ME bear camp, the 35 Rem is the one and only cartridge (with more than one incident) that is 100% 1 shot kill. These are not big bears and the range is close. The commonality is that virtually all of the 35 Rem's used had a 200 gr bullet at virtually the same velocity. This performance was repeated 31 times over 9 years in this bear camp. Sure, lots of other cartridges worked but the stats show the 35 Rem as the leader. I've shot dozens of hogs with it and several whitetails and always had a heavy blood trail if the animal ran at all. I can't say that about a similar # of animals shot with the 30-30 but I have to admit with the 30-30 I used a lot of different bullets and loads where with the 35 Rem I always used a 200gr jacketed bullet at 2025-2075 fps (depending on rifle). Anyway, I obviously like one better than the other but that does not make the other inferior. I'm sure there is someone with the opposite experience somewhere. If everyone gives an opinon we still don't settle anything and we still don't get to 800 whatever pages, but it'd be fun reading the attempts to get us there.

See what I mean? When you're #2, you have to try harder.

I'm in favor of better blood trails, less tracking, and less possibility of one disappearing over the ridge wounded, but still moving fast
-- I don't use anything under a .30-anything for hunting anything with any size
That said, I don't have any skin in the game on 30-30 vs .35. 30-30 has worked fine for me , but my fave is a mildly loaded 45/70 (guess i'd probably favor the 35 if I had a chance to do a field study then )
Oh heck if the owner weren't such a net Nazi we could have had double that with the .444 vs 45-70. But he'd rather ban folks that didn't drink his kool aid than let it go where it would.

Hmmm, looks like 25 yards is given up by the 35 Rem 200 gr. rn, over the 170 gr 30-30. At that distance, the bead of my front sight covers the entire target, forcing me to consider a scope. I think I will stick with limiting the shot distance to 150 yards, and going with the heavier bullet, larger metplat and higher energy without moving into magnum performance. If 200 yard shots are the norm, I wouldn't choose either cartridge
