PRICE CHECK - S&W Model 10-6

Post by stretch »

Hi Folks!

S&W Model 10-6. Has some holster wear, but does not appear to have
been fired much. Nice trigger, crane and cylinder tight. The local
gun shop is asking $250. Whaddya think? I've always wanted a basic
Model 10....

Sounds like a decent price to me.

Not as easy to find a $250 S&W .38 as it used to be.

Can't go wrong there.

The heavy barrels are really nice. They have good balance too. To me anyway the tapered barrels seem to heavy in my hand like there's no barrel out there to feel. $250 isn't a bad price though. Stoke it up with some +P's or +P+ and you have a really good stopper. With mild SWC's it's a great handgun to introduce a newcomer to the sport.

For only $250, I would get it. That is a fair price, and they are wonderful guns!!! Art

It would be a rare thing around here at that price.Handguns in general are high.

Try to see if there is any haggle room...but that is not a bad price.

I've picked them up for a little less recently and I have seen them sold for more a little more as well.

Everyone around here is ga ga over semi autos so the K frame S&W revolver gets very little love.

Thanks, Gentlemen!

It followed me home today.
Sorry, no pics - I have no digital camera at the moment. :(

Apparently this gun was bought by an auxiliary policeman
way back in the 60s or 70s. He died recently, and his relatives
found it in a drawer and didn't want it, so took it to the nearest
gun store. A box of ammo (from 1972 if the paperwork with it is
to be believed!) and a duty holster was included. I've looked it
over pretty closely, and I'd be surprised if it had more than a
coupla boxes of shells through it.

I can't wait to get down to the range with it.

Bought a hvy barrel in 4", blue for about that price last Fall here in MI.

Carried a 4" nickle for years. Have had it worked over by Magnaport.

I prefer the tapered barrel.

You did all right and you'll like it.

John Browning designed the 1911 but the Model 10 was created by Almighty.

There's a guy on CSP Guntalk reloading site who's really knowledgable in S&W and Model 10's specifically. PM for more info.

Howdy

You did fine. Like everything else, Model 10s have been going up in the last few years. Used to be you could find them for $200 of less around here. Best I did a few years ago was $125 for one. These days $250 is a good price.
I don't know where we're going but there's no sense being late.
