Ooh, now that would be cool...!Old Ironsights wrote:A re-engineered/envisioned Savage 99C-TD that feeds from mil-spec 7.62 NATO mags and comes with all 3 .308 based barrels.. A brush-length .358, a 20" .308/7.62 and a .243 barrel.
If you build it around HK magazines, a 20 rnd mag is less than $10 and a 5rd mag is less than $30.AJMD429 wrote:Ooh, now that would be cool...!Old Ironsights wrote:A re-engineered/envisioned Savage 99C-TD that feeds from mil-spec 7.62 NATO mags and comes with all 3 .308 based barrels.. I like the Savage 99 concept for the same reasons I like the Ruger 96 - I tend to dislike tubular magazines, due to slow loading, awkward unloading, bullet-tip restrictions, etc... But I really LIKE leverguns.

There is very little you couldn't do with that gun...
You wanna help me buy the old WYRULEC facility in Lingle? It would be perfect for a Gun MFG operation...ollogger wrote:Old Ironsights wrote:OK, my turn:

For many years, Angus Barker has been making Sharps-Borchardt rifles, in Stevensville MT.. Don't know for sure if he's still working.. I used to work with his brother Don, who founded Ballard Rifle & Cartridge, here in Cody, as well as the Gain Twist Barrel Company..BrentD wrote:Currently, no one is making the Sharps Borchardt. Many folks say they would love to have one for hunting, long range competition or to varmintize as was popular prior to the WWII. I have a Schuetzen version that I am not much enamored of, but given other people's interest, that might be a profitable way to go.
Somebody is a glutton for feeding problems, I think.. And the .45-70 is definitely the odd-man-out...Panzercat wrote:A single lever that will consume: 45LC, 454, 460, 45ACP and 410SS. Hell, let's throw in 45-70 while we're here

You know, I can't figure out why people want to punish themselves with all of that recoil. .......wait a minute, I'm more of a shooter than a hunter....only thinking for myself.....wait.....you can load it down. .....forget it.......hfcable wrote:+1 for me ! ]Buck Elliott wrote:My levergun, in .454 Casull; .475 Linebaugh; .475 Maximum, and .500 S&W..
Buck Elliott wrote:Next thing ya know, folks'll start clamoring for revolvers that shoot just by pulling the trigger, and feature "swing-out" cylinders, and simultaneous ejection of the empty cases...
Buck Elliott wrote:I've even heard tell of a pistol that don't have a cylinder a'tall.. Ya just shove a "magazine" fulla cartridges up its butt, then yank back on the top end, sorta like a slingshot, only it sets that pistol ready to shoot, fast as you can tap the Go-switch, and when it runs dry, you just mash a button, drop that "magazine" in the mud, and start all over again...
Somebody said they might have a carbine that works the same way...!?!?

But I got it all, thru the half-open door to the bar at the Irma Hotel, in Cody, and you can b'lieve me, them boys in there Knows their guns.. Trust me..!

I see a few references to the 99 Savage and the Ruger 96..
IMHO, the failed Winchester 88, the floundering Ruger Levergun and the cultist's Darling, the 99 Savage, (not to mention Marlin's defunct Levermatic series) all suffer from the same, serious design defect: NONE OF THEM HAS AN EXTERNAL HAMMER, which would alllow for quick, safe and east decocking if the firearm, which attribute was built-in to all previous designs, from the days of the Volcanics, and which descended from preceeding single shot types..
In my experience, levergunners instinctively Want that option, and if the gun has no hammer, the shooter constantly makes mental comments to himself, that he sure wishes the hammer was there.. think about it for a minute..
