Deer blind camo paint color
I am building wooden deer blind and want to paint it camo. Paint it a basic lighter colored green maybe? Then rattle can darker green, brown, gray, and black over leaves I pick up off the ground. That sound about right? I'm wondering what colors would work best, especially the base color of what I think should be a lighter green?
Thanks for any suggestions.

You can go just black and white. Or pink and black. Anything but yellow and blue or UV. http://www.huntingnet.com/articles/arti ... les_id=579

.
While the wooden deer stands I've built were usually actually tree stands, I always made them of non-pressure-treated lumber waaaayy ahead of deer seson, to allow the wood to weather/age/color naturally.
In the end, the wood looked pretty much like tree trunks.
I usually cut a few leafy or piney branches just prior to the hunt, for weaving/tying to any straight parts/sides extant, to camo the un-natural lines.
I suppose a semi-solid deck stain (like Cabot's) could be used to accellerate the process - but don't forget to do the bottom if you're doing an aerial blind (in a tree, etc).

Krylon makes a line of camo paints for just such an application. I think the main difference is that they are flat finish paints instead of gloss finish. They have them in green, black brown, sand, and may be something else. IIRC I saw Lowes has a store brand of the same thing for about a buck and a half less per can.

Re: Deer blind camo paint color
On private land I'd paint it any color I wanted (except blue as mentioned before) as long as it was a broken pattern.
On public land or in a congested area I'd paint it blaze orange and break it up.
Deer don't care what color it is mostly. Just break up it's outline and keep the chemical smells to a minimum. Secure anything that will make noise in the wind.

Doesn't matter if it's solid blaze orange. Once they are accustomed to it being there -- and they will know it is there even if you Realtree it -- they will ignore it.
Re: Deer blind camo paint color
Not painting it for the deer. Painting it for me on my property. But would like to hide it from tresspassing vandalizing area children. With paint.

It is a shame you have to resort to that.
